American Canyon Police Arrest Two Men During an in Progress Catalytic Converter Theft

AMERICAN CANYON, Calif., March 20, 2023 - On March 19, 2023, just before 11:00 PM, the American Canyon Police responded to the American Canyon Mini Storage business for a report of an alarm activation and a suspicious man walking inside who was not supposed to be there. Video showed the man walking and carrying what looked like a Skill saw tool, which is commonly used for catalytic converter thefts. American Canyon Police and Napa Sheriff’s Deputies set a perimeter around the area and found several recently stolen catalytic converters laying near a hole in the fence at the business. With the assistance of a CHP air helicopter above, officers and deputies located two involved suspects running from the area and hiding in bushes nearby. American Canyon Police Canine Brody was deployed to detain one suspect, identified as 22-year-old Casey Franklin, after he refused to come out with his hands up. Casey was bit by Canine Brody and detained. The second suspect, 33-year-old Joseph Franklin, complied with police orders to come out and was detained. Both men are from Stanislaus County. Tools related to stealing the catalytic converters were found on their person. Both suspects were arrested and booked into the Napa County Department of Corrections for several felony and misdemeanor crimes related to the catalytic converter thefts and this incident.
