We spent last week reflecting on the exciting accomplishments of 2022 through numerous State of the City events—sharing how our American Canyon has grown, how we serve our residents and businesses, and how we collaborate with community partners to provide essential services and fun events. It was truly a pleasure connecting with this special community and celebrating our progress as a City.

At the core of everything we do is our commitment to transparency. American Canyon prioritizes community engagement and we remain dedicated to keeping you informed and involved in the decisions that affect your daily lives.

Unfortunately, we have received news that the school district will be suing American Canyon. While we cannot discuss the specifics of the litigation, we are committed to keeping you updated with the relevant information and facts as they become available.

State of the City Presentations

This year, our team had the honor of not only presenting the State of the City Annual Report virtually, but to be able to reach the community in person! Sandbags Available during Storm Conditions

Combat heavy rains and flooding with sandbags! Here’s how to fill a sandbag:

The City offers a 24/7 self-serve sandbag station during the winter season at City Hall (4381 Broadway, near the entrance by the tree & picnic table). Please bring your own shovel and gloves.

Napa County Black History Month Event

At Napa County's sixth annual Black History month event, a panel of ACHS Students led an important discussion about Black educational representation as well as important topics impacting the Black youth today. We are so proud of our American Canyon youth who took the time and initiative to educate the community and celebrate Black History Month. Celebrating Black History Month

Black History Month reminds us to continue fighting for justice and equality. The City of American Canyon and our community-at-large pay tribute to the heroes, sung and unsung, of Black history.

The Black community has made and continues to make incredible contributions throughout history. We recognize and celebrate their courage, hope, and ability to make our communities a better place—including our very own Vice Mayor, Pierre Washington. Pierre R. Washington, a resident of American Canyon since 2006, was elected to the City Council in November 2020. We are incredibly grateful for his impact in making our community the best place to live, work, and play!

“As we celebrate Black History Month 2023, we give special attention and thanks to the numerous contributions of the Black community in the American Canyon area, our country, and the world.

Black History Month is a reminder that it is up to all of us, every day of the year to actively combat racism in our communities, organizations, and ourselves. Whether it be on the front lines as essential workers, grocery store workers, truck drivers, health care providers, government employees, or in any other service to our nation, Black Americans have continuously shown up for our country in the face of adversity.

The past few years have been a crisis period for many Black Americans. The turmoil of the last few years as a result of the senseless death and injuries of young Black men and women has brought out people of all ages, ethnic groups and backgrounds to stand up and say enough is enough, in a positive and united way.

Black History Month is about making a commitment to ensure that ALL Black lives feel loved, listened to, and affirmed in the spaces we call home and in every corner of our social equality.

I continue to say that the one thing that continues to motivate me now is that I understand that there are a number of Black young people that look up to me, including my children, to be that positive role model. I know that they're looking at me as I'm walking this political path for their future opportunities.”

NVTA Transportation Survey!

The Napa Valley Transportation Authority is conducting a survey to learn about what barriers to transportation exist for seniors and those with disabilities, and how to make it easier to get around. Your participation in this survey will help us to create recommendations for achieving equitable, improved transportation options to better serve these individuals. The survey is available in both English and Spanish and is available for responses until February 28, 2023. Click here to take the survey today!

What a great evening at the Council Chambers celebrating American Canyon Youth Football - ACYF's 2022 National Youth Football Championship victory. Thank you to their outgoing President, Ian Anderson, for his dedication to this amazing organization in our community.

Lifeguard Training Class

The countdown for summer begins now! If you are 15 years of age or older, you can sign up for Lifeguard Training to earn your American Red Cross Certification in just four days.

That's not all; lessons on CPR/AED and First Aid are included as well! Upon certification, you will be eligible to apply for the Lifeguard position with the City of American Canyon. Spots are limited, so register today!

Napa Valley Community Foundation Scholarship

The NVCF Scholarship is now open! High school seniors, Napa Valley College students, and many more are eligible for this scholarship. The deadline to apply is March 6, 2023. Learn more and apply!

Napa RCD High School Environmental Scholarships

Napa RCD’s 2022-23 Emerging Environmental Leaders Scholarship is now open! The scholarship is open to students graduating from any high school, high school equivalent, or GED program in Napa County. The deadline to apply is April 30, 2023.

Vallejo's Broadway Project (Homekey)

A community meeting is scheduled for Saturday, March 4, 2023, at 10 AM, at Veterans Memorial Park (2801 Broadway, at the picnic shelter adjacent to the playground). The purpose of this meeting is for American Canyon city officials to share information about the City of Vallejo's "Broadway Project" (Homekey). Vallejo's "Broadway Project" (Homekey) is a 48-unit permanent supportive housing located north of 2401 Broadway, Vallejo, CA. (adjacent to American Canyon's Veteran's Park). Project information is available at MyVallejo.com/BroadwayProject.

Water Conservation Video Contest

The water conservation video contest is back! This year's theme is planning for not so rainy days. We want to see your creativity shine in creating a Public Service Announcement for water conservation! This contest is open to 9-12 graders.
