HAYWARD MAN LEADS OFFICERS ON VEHICLE PURSUIT ENDING IN ARREST

AMERICAN CANYON, Calif., December 20, 2022, 12:05 PM - On Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at approximately 1:40 AM, American Canyon Police (ACPD) officers were dispatched to an in-progress vehicle theft in the 300 block of Los Altos Drive. The stolen vehicle, a white 2006 Ford F-350 truck, was spotted by officers traveling southbound Elliott Drive. Officers initiated a traffic stop, the driver failed to yield, and a pursuit began.

The pursuit continued into Vallejo, where Vallejo Police officers assisted, and eventually onto Highway 29 northbound back into American Canyon. Napa County Sheriff deputies set up spike strips on northbound Highway 29 near Green Island Road. This deployment was successful in deflating a front tire on the stolen vehicle, but the driver continued to drive on the rim, reaching speeds near 100mph. Traffic during the pursuit was light, so officers and deputies continued northbound Highway 29 into Napa. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) air and ground support was requested, and they responded for assistance.

Once into Napa city limits, the vehicle continued onto northbound Highway 221, onto Soscol Avenue, and then onto northbound Big Ranch Road. The suspect ended up crashing into a residence in the 5000 block of Big Ranch Road. No injuries resulted in the traffic collision.

The suspect, 56-year-old Albert Mayfield of Hayward, surrendered to officers and was arrested. Officers learned Mayfield had several felony warrants for his arrest out of Alameda County, one of which included vehicle theft. During an interview with Mayfield, he admitted to recently using Methamphetamine and Cocaine. Mayfield was booked into the Napa County jail for his outstanding warrants and several felony charges associated with the vehicle theft and the pursuit.
