IDENTITY THEFT SUSPECT ARRESTED

AMERICAN CANYON, Calif., November 29, 2022, 10:45 AM - On November 28, 2022 at approximately 12 PM, an ACPD officer contacted a male subject acting suspiciously in the 600 block of Danrose Drive. While speaking with 40-year-old American Canyon resident Leroy Maestas, the officer noticed he was displaying signs and symptoms of being under the influence of a controlled substance. The officer also saw a pipe commonly used to ingest methamphetamine protruding from Maestas' pants pocket.

Maestas was detained and ACPD further investigated a vehicle Maestas was standing near. It was determined the vehicle belonged to Maestas and a search of the vehicle yielded more illicit drug paraphernalia and brass knuckles, along with a device used to remove security sensors at retail stores. Lastly, officers located 10 California identification cards and credit card information not belonging to Maestas.

Maestas was arrested for felony identity theft and the following misdemeanor crimes: being under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of brass knuckles, and possession of burglary tools. Maestas was booked into the Napa County jail with a $25,000 bail. He was cited and released by the jail at approximately 8:30PM.

ACPD is continuing to follow up with the identity theft victims in the investigation.
