Chief's Message
|
Hello American Canyon,
I would like to introduce myself, my name is Geoff Belyea and I am your new Fire Chief. Many of you have grown used to Chief Cahill’s monthly newsletters after two years of dedicated service as your Fire Chief he has retired after close to 50 years in the Fire Service. I’d like to thank Chief Cahill for the leadership he has provided to the Fire District and on a personal note would like to thank him for his mentorship and more importantly, his friendship.
A little about myself. I grew up in American Canyon, in fact American Canyon wasn’t even an incorporated City when we moved here. As with many of us, life and our careers take us on an amazing journey, and, after 25 years in the Fire Service, I am extremely excited to return “home” and to have the distinct honor of leading your Fire District. I have an amazing wife and two young sons, in fact, you can say we are a public safety family as my wife is a law enforcement officer in an adjoining city.
July is always month where Firefighters get apprehensive, the drying effects of our California summers begin to take hold, drying the grasses and brush in and around our community. As we approach the 4th of July, I would like to remind you that fireworks are illegal both in American Canyon and Napa County. Please help make the 4th a safe holiday by not using fireworks but instead bring your friends and family to the City’s 4th of July celebration. I will be accompanying our crews to the event and would love the chance to meet you. (Details are listed below)
Another great event to say hello would be 'Meet Me in the Street' hosted by the American Canyon Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday, July 13 between 5-8 pm. AmCan Fire will have a booth with hand outs on Fire Safety, as well as a chance for you to meet your AmCan Firefighters.
I look forward to serving as your Fire Chief.
Geoff Belyea
