American Canyon Memorial Day Ceremony

AMERICAN CANYON, Calif., May 24, 2022 – The American Canyon Troop Support, Lions Club International, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1123 will host a Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 30, 2022, in partnership with the City of American Canyon. The ceremony will begin at 11 AM at the Veteran's Memorial Park (2801 Broadway Street, American Canyon).

As a part of the ceremony, participants will be invited to announce the name of their loved ones who have served and are no longer with us. Flags, white stars, and writing supplies will be provided for participants to write the name of their loved one on the star before that portion of the ceremony. The participants will also be invited to stake their flag in the ceremonial area as a visual display of honor and remembrance.

The ceremony will include live performances from the American Canyon High School, Donaldson Way Elementary School, and honorable Keynote Speaker, Commander Thomas Miele, United States Coast Guard, "Retired". Light refreshments will be served at the end of the ceremony.

About the Keynote Speaker

Commander Thomas Miele retired from the United States Coast Guard in 2011 after 33 years of active duty service. He is from Agoura, California, and enlisted in the Coast Guard in 1978. Three days after boot camp, he married Dianne Lenora Hood, serving together in Puerto Rico, Italy (where their first son, Dillon, was born), San Diego, New York (where Cameron & Cory were born), Washington D.C., Key West Florida (boy #4 Stefan), and finally to the West Coast, Alameda, Alaska, and Point Reyes.

He obtained the rank of Chief Petty Officer before taking a commission. He has several years of sea duty and was the Commanding Officer of Communications Station, Kodiak, Alaska, Communications Master Station Pacific, Point Reyes, California, and finally as the Executive Officer of the Maritime Pacific Intelligence Center, Alameda, California. Commander Miele has a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of the State of New York, Albany, and a Master of Science Degree in Telecommunications Management (with honors) from Golden Gate University. Among his many medals and awards are two Meritorious Service Medals with Operations Device, Three National Defense Service Medals, the Humanitarian Service Medal with Bronze Star, and the Global War On Terrorism. Commander Miele and his family resided in American Canyon for 27 years.
