Hello,
I hope you can get out and enjoy the wonderful community events this weekend. American Canyon's school communities have teamed up to host an eggsciting day on Saturday, April 16th, from 1-4 PM, at Shenandoah Park (100 Sonoma Creek Way). The day will be filled with an Easter egg hunt, games, prizes, and more!
Speaking of prizes… You can win big and help save water by signing up for our FREE online tool, "My Water Portal." We must come together as a community to further reduce our water use. Using no more than an average of 55 gallons of water per person in your household each day will help our community avoid additional, more severe restrictions as the drought worsens. This tool can help you do just that! It includes (hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly) water tracking, comparison data, and the ability to set up alerts to notify you of high water consumption. American Canyon water customers who sign up for "My Water Portal" will be entered into a raffle for a $25 gift certificate to Mid-City Nursery OR a one-time $50 credit on their water/sewer monthly bill. If you've already signed up for "My Water Portal," you'll automatically be entered into the raffle. Winners will be notified weekly via email to the email address linked to their portal account.
The April showers we've received recently help our local vegetation, but the statewide drought still persists with a vengeance. Fortunately, the ground will remain sufficiently moist through the end of April, even with nicer sunny weather! PLEASE TURN OFF YOUR SPRINKLER SYSTEM at least until May - your thirsty turf will be just fine.
April 15th, Tax Day, is a great time to check your toilets. Is it running even when not in use? How many gallons are used per flush? If your toilet is more than 10-years old, it probably uses 1.6 gallons or even 2.0 gallons per flush. This hidden waste is easily corrected. I've recently replaced all my old toilets with new ones that only use 1.1 gallons per flush. If you aren't that handy, you can hire a plumber to take care of it in no time. Best of all, we have $100 rebates available for you – let's get one started for you today!
On Wednesday, April 20th at 6 PM, the Napa Valley Transportation Authority will provide an update on planned highway improvements. The virtual meeting details are included below. This project aims to improve mobility and safety for all users, provide accessibility for all modes, make aesthetic improvements throughout the corridor by eliminating utility poles, and improve access to businesses. I hope you'll tune in to hear about this vital project.
Next weekend you won't want to miss the Earth Day celebrations at our Wetlands. The American Canyon Community & Parks Foundation will kick it off Friday evening with an "Earth Day Walk & Talk." The following day the City will host a Spring Cleaning Day. We are still seeking volunteers to participate. Flyers for both of these events are included below.
Have a Safe and Happy Easter,
Jason B. Holley City Manager
