Hello,
Did you know American Canyon was incorporated 30 years ago? In 1992 we officially became a City! Last week Congressman Thompson surprised us at City Hall with a Congressional Record Statement recognizing the 30th anniversary of the City of American Canyon — the youngest city in Napa County. We'll be celebrating this big year throughout 2022, check out our special anniversary pages for fun facts and additional history about our amazing city!
The ongoing drought has created very bleak conditions this year.

Wasting water is irresponsible. Every customer has an obligation to track their use of this most precious resource. Fortunately, there is a FREE online tool, "My Water Portal," to help you. This tool has several capabilities to help guide responsible use - including daily, weekly, and monthly water tracking, comparison data, and the ability to set up alerts to notify you of high water consumption.
American Canyon remains in Drought Emergency Stage 2. As a reminder, the following restrictions remain in place – based on information from the State, more drastic restrictions will be likely if water is not used responsibly:
- No more than 2 days per week for irrigating landscaping - especially turf lawns - and do so only during the late evening and early morning hours (between 6 PM - 6 AM).
- Inspect all irrigation systems for leaks and adjust spray heads to provide optimum coverage and eliminate over-spray.
- A maximum of 2 minutes per irrigation cycle is all that is needed. If water begins to run off to gutters or sidewalks, the sprinklers are running too much.
- Better yet, you can save a lot of money by replacing your non-native thirsty turf with beautiful native, drought-tolerant species. Mid-City Nursery has a great selection of such plants – check them out today.
- If your toilet is more than 10-years old, it wastes too much water. Why waste water when you can get a new, water-saving toilet? We have water conservation incentives and rebate programs to replace plumbing fixtures and appliances with water-efficient models. General Plumbing has a great selection of new toilets – check them out today.
- Limit the duration of showers to 5 minutes or less, turning off the faucet when brushing teeth and flushing toilets only when necessary each day.
If my pleas weren't convincing enough, I have an exciting incentive for you! American Canyon water customers who sign up for "My Water Portal" will be entered into a raffle to win a one-time $50 credit on their water/sewer monthly bill. If you have already signed up on "My Water Portal," we will automatically enter you into the raffle. Raffle winners will be notified weekly via email to the email address linked to their portal account. Be sure to sign up today! 💧
Take care,
Jason B. Holley City Manager
