City of American Canyon renames Senior Multi-Use Center to Adult Activity Center

AMERICAN CANYON, Calif., February 16, 2022 – The City of American Canyon officially renamed the City’s ‘Senior Multi-Use Center’ to the ‘Adult Activity Center’ in the February 15, 2022 City Council Meeting.

“It is a priority of the council to build the strength of our local community and develop a clear sense of place for our residents,” said Mayor Leon Garcia. “Renaming the center makes the facility more welcoming space for adults in the American Canyon community.”

The now Adult Activity Center has served American Canyon’s active adult community since 2010, providing a wide variety of programs and services that promote wellness, create a sense of place, supply vital resources, and foster long-lasting relationships among residents.

“The Adult Activity Center is the City’s gateway to connect to our active adult community, so the center’s name should reflect its relevance to the community members it serves,” said Parks and Recreation Director Alexandra Ikeda. “This simple name change will allow us to better connect and engage with all adults within American Canyon; boost participation, enrollment, and activity at the center; and create a sense of place that is inclusive and enjoyable for all.”

Since 2019, Parks and Recreation staff has been working with the Senior Steering Committee and surveying program participants and community members to establish ways to further connect with active adults in American Canyon, sparking this rebranding effort. The Parks team is drumming up excitement for the Adult Activity Center and its offerings through new signage and additional marketing.

The Parks and Recreation Department was awarded a $5,000 grant from the Solano County Foundation and the United Way Health Endowment Fund, which will fund the rebranding effort. Part of the funding will be used to purchase and install updated facility signage, with the rest supporting the promotion and expansion of active adult programs and services at the center.
