Father and Son Duo Arrested for Fraudulent Gas Purchase and ID Theft

AMERICAN CANYON, Calif., February 2, 2022, 10:30 AM – On Tuesday, February 01, 2022, at approximately 1:45 PM, an American Canyon Officer spotted a blue Ford F-150 pickup parked at the Safeway gas station in American Canyon. Two males were pumping diesel into two over 100-gallon tanks in the bed of the truck. Due to recent gas thefts at Safeway, occurring with subjects pumping gas into large tanks with fraudulent credit cards, the officer decided to speak with the two males. They were identified as Guillermo Torres Sr (55 years old) and Guillermo Torres Jr (31 years old), both residents of Oakland.

The Torres’s first told the officers they hadn’t purchased or pumped any gas. The officer checked Safeway’s video surveillance which showed they were not truthful. The officer checked with the attendant and learned the subjects had used several different credit cards to purchase a large amount of fuel. The father and son were detained for investigation of ID theft. During the investigation, officers did not find any of the credit cards used to purchase fuel in their possession. While searching the Ford truck, officers located a hidden compartment containing several items associated with ID theft. The father and son were arrested and booked into the Napa County Jail on several felony and misdemeanor charges related to theft and conspiracy to commit crimes.
