Vehicle Pursuit Involving Stolen Vehicle Ends In Fatal Collision

AMERICAN CANYON, Calif., January 28, 2022, 12 PM – On Thursday, January 27, 2022, at approximately 10:30 PM, the American Canyon Police Department (ACPD) was involved in a vehicle pursuit with a reported stolen vehicle. The stolen vehicle crashed, and the driver did not survive their injuries.

ACPD officers received information that a grey Toyota SUV was stolen out of Oakland and was thought to be in American Canyon. ACPD officers spotted a grey Toyota SUV driving southbound in the 2500 block of Flosden Road. The officer ran the license plate and learned it matched the stolen vehicle out of Oakland. ACPD officers conducted a traffic stop. The vehicle yielded and came to a complete stop on Fairgrounds Drive near Corcoran Avenue in Vallejo, just outside the city limits of American Canyon. Officers exited their vehicles and gave the driver verbal commands to exit the stolen vehicle. The driver failed to comply with the officer's commands and sped off southbound on Fairgrounds Drive.

ACPD officers continued after the stolen vehicle, which led them onto eastbound Highway 37, and then continued onto eastbound Interstate 80. The vehicle continued on eastbound Interstate 80, reaching speeds more than 100mph, with very light traffic on the Interstate. Near the Red Top Road exit in Solano County, the driver lost control of the SUV and went off the roadway over the guard rail, at which time the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was ejected. An ambulance happened to be in the area and rendered first aid to the driver immediately following the crash. The driver was transported to North Bay Medical Center in the City of Fairfield. No other vehicles were involved in the collision.

Early Friday, January 28, the driver was pronounced dead. The Solano County Coroner Office took over the death investigation. The driver's name is not being released at this time, pending notification of next of kin.
