American Canyon City Council Proclaims
January 1, 2022 As the City's Official 30th Anniversary

AMERICAN CANYON, Calif., January 21, 2022 – On Tuesday, January 18, the American Canyon City Council proclaimed January 1, 2022 as American Canyon’s 30th Anniversary.

"It's exciting how much we have accomplished in 30 years, and who would have thought it would come up that fast? This anniversary is something to be very proud of and I'm certain we'll find ways of celebrating in the summer months, hopefully as COVID restrictions ease up and we can be outdoors," said Mayor Leon Garcia. "Thank you to all the community groups, organizations, businesses, community members and public servants who have made American Canyon what it is today: a place we are proud to call 'home'."

City Clerk Taresa Geilfuss also shared two letters of congratulations from State government representatives:

  1. From Senator Bill Dodd, in recognition of the City of American Canyon as "Napa County's second-largest city and fastest-growing city."
  2. From 4th District Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry, in appreciation of American Canyon's diversity: "Your City's motto is a testament of your caring and inclusiveness; 'We Love Everyone in American Canyon'."

Residents began settling the area now known as "American Canyon" following World War II, with the McKnight Acres subdivision in the 1940s and Rancho Del Mar in the 1950s. The City of American Canyon was previously known as "Napa Junction" and, before incorporation, was served by the American Canyon County Water District and American Canyon Fire Protection District. By a vote of the residents and by vote of the Napa County Board of Supervisors, the "City of American Canyon" incorporated January 1, 1992.
