January 6, 2022 - Update on Reports of Discolored Water

We are receiving multiple reports of discolored water in various locations throughout town. Light yellow to dark brown water is typically caused by a disturbance of pipeline sediments in the water main. The discoloration is caused by naturally occurring particles and minerals that have settled over time and are found in all water systems. Despite its appearance, this does not indicate that the water is unsafe or that the integrity of the water main is compromised. A disinfectant residual is maintained at all times to ensure that the water is safe for household use, including cooking and drinking. If you are experiencing discolored water at your home or business, for aesthetic reasons, you should avoid doing laundry until the water clears up.

Within the past few days, our water system experienced two significant leaks, requiring valves being closed and then reopened for repairs. Our team is working diligently to flush the system to help clear the discoloration quicker. This process will occur over the next 24-28 hours. Once we complete the flushing, we will advise customers to run their water for a few minutes to clear their lines.

We appreciate your patience.
