Hello,
Fall is definitely in the air and the leaves are hitting the ground; we already had our first winter storm and it was a good one! ACPD would like to thank everyone for slowing down and driving cautiously in the wet weather and please continue to do so in the upcoming months. We set our clocks back this month which means more hours of darkness in the evening. I would like to remind drivers to be extra cautious for pedestrians enjoying evening walks and bike rides. Those on foot are encouraged to wear high visibility clothing and bicyclists please make sure to have the proper lighting equipment on the front and rear of bicycles.
November is the month of giving thanks and spending time with friends and family, which means traveling in order to do so. Please remember when traveling over the Thanksgiving holiday to set your residential alarms, if you have one, and lock up your residence. Unfortunately, thieves take advantage of you spending time visiting friends and family and will burglarize residences not secured well. If you have trustworthy neighbors, advise them to watch over your residence while you are out of town.
You may have noticed ACPD Officers sporting beards this month. ACPD and the Napa County Sheriff’s Department are participating in No-Shave November, the non-profit organization for cancer research and prevention. This is a month long fundraiser where participants donate money as they forgo shaving. This in return will hopefully evoke conversation and raise cancer awareness. If you wish to donate, go to the No Shave November website and donate under team "Napa County DSA."
Recently, we have had an increase in parking violation and abandoned vehicle complaints. ACPD Officers and Community Service Officers (CSO’S) pro-actively look for violators as time permits but obviously we don’t catch everyone on our own and this is where the eyes of the community assist us. To better manage the reporting process, we have an online reporting system (see below link). The link has a nice feature where you can actually pin point on a map the issue, provide the license plate of the vehicle, and an actual photo of the violation in progress. The notifications get sent directly to the CSO’s and they work diligently on responding once reported. A supervisor also tracks the complaints to make sure they are handled in a timely manner. If the complainant leaves contact information they also follow up with how the issue was resolved, however often times complaints are anonymous.

I wish all of you a Happy Thanksgiving from the American Canyon Police Department!!!!!
