Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest

AMERICAN CANYON, Calif., November, 5th, 2021, 1004am–

On 11/04/21 at approximately 245pm, American Canyon Officers were on routine patrol in the area of Napa Junction Road and Reliant Way. An alert officer noticed a male walking in the area that he recognized as Carl Bonds (28 years old); he knew that Bonds was on parole for burglary. Bonds got into a vehicle that was determined to be registered to him and began to drive from the area. ACPD officers conducted a traffic stop based on Bonds’ parole status and additional vehicle code violations they observed.

Upon contact, Bonds confirmed his identity and active parole status. A parole search was conducted on his vehicle pursuant to his parole terms and a single .40 caliber bullet was discovered underneath the driver seat of the vehicle. The knowledgeable ACPD officer knew that Bonds was a convicted felon and was not allowed to possess ammunition. He then located Bonds’ residence in the 800 block of Reliant Way and conducted a parole search of his residence pursuant to his parole terms. In the residence, ACPD officers located a short barreled assault rifle loaded with a high capacity magazine, which contained ammunition. Also located was a grey and black Glock style pistol, which was also loaded with a high capacity magazine with ammunition. The rifle did not have a serial number and the serial number of the pistol was not registered.

Bonds was arrested for felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of ammunition, possession of a short barreled rifle, and for violating his parole. Bonds is still in custody with a bail of $50,000 for his firearms/ammunition charges and no bail for violating his parole.
