Theft at Wal-Mart Leads to High Capacity Magazine and Ammo Arrest

AMERICAN CANYON, Calif., November 2, 2021, 10:00 AM, on 11/01/2021 at approximately 8:00PM, American Canyon Officers were dispatched to a call of a possible theft from Walmart. Officers arrived on scene and contacted two males who were being detained by store Asset Protection Officers. ACPD Officers determined Christopher Melone 28yrs out of Sacramento and Richard Garcia 34yrs out of Fairfield, had taken a small amount of store merchandise without paying for the items.

During the investigation, it was discovered that Melone had an outstanding felony arrest warrant out of Colusa County for impersonating a peace officer, he is also on probation for firearms violations, with search and seizure terms. Garcia had an outstanding misdemeanor arrest warrant out of Napa County for narcotics possession. Melone’s vehicle was located in the Wal-Mart parking lot and a search was done pursuant to his probation terms. Inside the vehicle a methamphetamine pipe and a loaded 30 round .9mm “drum style” handgun magazine was located. Officers learned that Melone and Garcia are both convicted felons, which prohibits them from possessing ammunition. Melone and Garcia both denied ownership of the loaded magazine.

Melone and Garcia were arrested for misdemeanor petty theft, misdemeanor drug paraphernalia, felony conspiracy to commit a crime, felon in possession of ammunition, and for their outstanding arrest warrants. Melone and Garcia are still in custody with a bail of $50,000.
