Traffic Stop Results in Arrest for Identity Theft and Narcotics

AMERICAN CANYON, Calif., August 10, 2021, 10:00 AM, on Tuesday, August 10, 2021, at approximately 2:30 AM, American Canyon Officers spotted a black Chevrolet SUV that matched the description of a vehicle involved in recent catalytic converter thefts, in the area of Danrose and Reed Drives, in the City of American Canyon. Officers stopped the vehicle, the driver Elsy VASQUEZ (29 years of San Pablo) and passenger Edgar GONZALEZ-CASTRO (32 years San Pablo) were contacted.

VASQUEZ originally provided officers with a false name, and it was determined under her real name, she had a Solano County felony arrest warrant for possession of the stolen property. GONZALEZ-CASTRO also had an outstanding felony arrest warrant out of Contra Costa County for grand theft.
Officers placed both subjects under arrest for their outstanding felony arrest warrants. Officers searched VASQUEZ person and belongings; 10 bank cards were located, none had her name on them, and they were confirmed to be stolen. A search of GONZALEZ-CASTRO’s person and belongings revealed he had methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in his possession.

VASQUEZ was additionally charged with misdemeanor providing false information to a peace officer and felony identity theft. GONZALEZ-CASTRO was charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, both misdemeanors. At the time of this press release, VASQUEZ and GONZALEZ-CASTRO are both currently in custody at the Napa County Department of Corrections.
