May 26, 2021
Greetings!
The days are getting longer and warmer. More people are out and about as the COVID health restrictions begin to ease. It’s exciting to get back to some of the activities we’ve missed over the past year and visit with friends in person again! As summer approaches, many of us will spend time at or near the water. Pools, lakes, beaches, and rivers all offer great opportunities for exercise, relaxation, and a way to stay cool on hot days. May is National Water Safety Month. Click here for water safety tips and resources.
While the City remains closed to in-person services, building permits and other services are available through our Virtual City Hall. You can submit plans and permit applications online. As always, our staff is available to answer questions and help guide you through the process. Please call (707) 647-4348 or email permittech@cityofamericancanyon.org if you need assistance.
Please stay safe, be kind to one another.

De-Mystifying Planning
Ever wonder “Who decides What” when a development application is submitted to the City? There are a lot of individuals with formal and informal roles, such as the City Council, Planning Commission, Development Applicants, Stakeholders, and You. Confused? You are not alone. To help “untangle” the process, the Institute of Local Government provides an excellent guide to the basics of Local Planning. The guide explains the development review process as well as the roles of the Planning Commission, City Council, the public, and staff. You can access the guide HERE.

What do you think?
Are you a “Food Truck fan”? The City received a development application for a food truck next to Larry’s Truck Toppers at 4225 Broadway and next to Walgreens at 210 American Canyon Road. These trucks would park on private property (not the street) and operate during daylight hours. On Thursday, May 27, 2021, the Planning Commission will conduct a public hearing to consider these two applications.

Fuel Station Moratorium
The City Council adopted a “Temporary” Urgency Moratorium on Gas Stations in American Canyon. Because the Temporary Moratorium won’t last forever, the City needs to prepare new “Non-Temporary” (i.e.: permanent) regulations. That work begins at the Planning Commission on Thursday with a discussion of possible changes to the General Plan.

Lemos Pointe Apartments
A new apartment project in Watson Ranch will be reviewed by the Planning Commission. The development will provide housing that is affordable to lower-income residents – a difficult achievement these days. The project is named after our beloved resident, Fran Lemos who is a big supporter of American Canyon in so many ways!
Join the conversation by participating in the Planning Commission meeting this Thursday via zoom at https://zoom.us/join Webinar ID: 950 0137 2673 Pass Code: 899670 or by submitting written comments here on any of the three agenda items.
