Hello,
Have you heard of "Purple Pipe?" As a part of ongoing water conservation efforts in the commercial sector, the City of American Canyon adopted a Zero Water Footprint (ZWF) policy. The primary goal of this policy is that there is no loss in reliability or increase in water rates for existing water service customers due to the new demand for water within the City's water service area. You can learn more by checking out this video from back in my Public Works Director days, where I explain how it works. Recycled water is wastewater that has been processed through primary, secondary, and tertiary treatment and disinfection. It meets the strict standards of the California Department of Public Health. Using the right water in the right place makes sense, and it works! We have a way that you can also do your part in reducing potable water use by offering a residential recycled water program. Residents can use recycled water to water their trees, gardens, vegetables, and lawns.
It's easy to participate in our Residential Recycled Water Program. There is, of course, a required application and short process to get pre-registered. We have a special event planned for Saturday, May 22, 2021, and pre-registration is required. At this event, residents (pre-register here to receive time and location details) will be able to pick up a recycled water container and up to 300 gallons of recycled water for FREE! The registration includes submission of a short application and a brief online training. Once you’re registered and have your recycled water container, you’ll be able to access the residential recycled water filling stations during the weekdays, between the hours of 8am and 3pm.
If you haven’t already, be sure to sign up for your account on our new Customer Water Usage Portal and keep track of your own water usage at home. I’d love to hear about your experience and what you learn about the consumption of water in your own home. We’ve had a few success stories already where this tool helped detect water leaks in irrigation systems and toilets that were caught quickly. And, of course, be sure to check out our Cash for Grass and Toilet Rebate programs, and our website to find tips on how to save water, and more!
Take care,
Jason Holley City Manager

COVID-19 Guidance Update
As the COVID-19 guidance from federal and state public health agencies continues to evolve, there is a high level of confusion. In regard to recent guidance released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, it’s important to note that their guidance states “except where required by federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial laws, rules, and regulations, including local business and workplace guidance.” Napa County Public Health Department is awaiting updated guidance from the CA Dept of Public Health. Cal-OSHA is in the process of updating guidance, but it is not yet in effect. In the State of California, businesses are still required to follow current Cal-OSHA guidance, which includes masking of all employees in most indoor settings.
Revisions to Cal/OSHA's COVID-19 Prevention Emergency Temporary Standards (8 CCR Sections 3025-3205.4) will be considered by the California Occupational Safety & Health Standards Board at its May 20th meeting. For more information: https://www.dir.ca.gov/OSHSB/COVID-19-Prevention-Emergency.html
