Chief's Message

Welcome to the Pandemic Holidays 2020…

In the past, I have generally taken the opportunity to encourage the community to focus on holiday safety at this time of year. I have reminded residents to be more careful with cooking and heating appliances because of their increased use due to family gatherings and cooler outside temperatures. Placing “cut” Christmas Trees inside our homes for several weeks at this time of the year can create a potentially dangerous outcome if not done with caution and fire safety in mind. Placing your tree in a location that is too close to an exit door, fireplace, or source of open flame can have disastrous outcomes if the tree catches fire.

Given the impacts that the current COVID-19 pandemic has on all of our lives right now, trying to create a sense of normalcy around the upcoming holidays will be challenging for all of us this year. Please remember that we are as a Country, State, County, and American Canyon are still struggling to reduce the risk of the pandemic spread throughout our communities.

Let’s all do our part to protect ourselves, our family members, and our neighbors from the deadly impacts of COVID-19. Please be SAFE!

C Shift conducted hose training at the 'Theresa House' on November 1st. Training occurs in the fire service to improve the skills of firefighters and the department's overall response capabilities while meeting national standards.

On November 30, members of the American Canyon Fire Protection District, with the American Canyon Police Department's assistance, had the honor of participating in the final journey home for Oakland Fire Department Assistant Chief Sean Laffan. Assistant Chief Laffan passed away on duty on Monday, November 16, 2020.

On November 6, Firefighter/Paramedic Donevin Steele completed his 18-month probation period. Congratulations, Firefighter Steele!

Christmas tree fires are some of the deadliest home fires that firefighters and paramedics respond to. If you bring a live tree into your house, make sure to water it every day and not leave the lights on when you are out of the house or asleep. #IAFFSafetyTips
