October 23, 2020
Hello,
Napa Valley Unified School District (NVUSD) schools are re-opening for in-person learning beginning Monday, October 26th. NVUSD has worked tirelessly to prepare for limited numbers of students to return to school campuses safely. They hosted a Community Town Hall earlier this month to share the latest information and answer questions. The recording is available here. To learn more about the reopening plans, visit NVUSD's website.
While this is an exciting step in the direction back to "normalcy" for many families in our community, it is also a very stressful time of additional change. Please plan for extra traffic in the mornings and afternoons in the school zones and surrounding areas. Please slow down, be patient, and look out for our children as they venture back to their classrooms.
Napa County moved to a less restrictive “Orange Tier” within California’s Blueprint for a Safer Economy earlier this week. This move means more capacity will be allowed for indoor dining, religious services, movie theaters, and other industries with modifications and in accordance with state guidelines found here. For more information, visit the State of California's Safer Economy web page or the County's Frequently Asked Questions.
The change to a less restrictive tier is also a significant improvement, but we aren't out of the woods. We must all remain diligent in our 3 W's - Wash your Hands, Wear a Face Mask, and Watch Your Distance (keep 6 feet between you and others from outside of your household). Getting your flu shot is also essential; Napa County Public Health offers a free drive-thru flu shot clinic on Monday from 3 to 6 PM at the Aquatics Center Parking Lot located at 100 Benton Way.
Remember, we are in this together - stay safe, be kind to one another, and be smart.
Thank you,
Jason Holley City Manager
P.S. When making your plans for Halloween, the City of American Canyon recommends following the guidance provided by public health professionals. This information can be found on our Halloween Guidance page. We will continue adding resources to help provide guidance whether you participate in trick-or-treating or not.
