July 30, 2020
Hello,
Unfortunately, COVID-19 continues to spread throughout Napa County. For the latest information, please watch Public Health Officer Dr. Relucio’s presentation earlier this week.
American Canyon began the month of July with 58 cases and 1 fatality. We now end the month with 142 cases and 2 fatalities. The “Three W’s” - Wash your Hands, Wear a Face Covering, and Watch your Distance – are more critical than ever. If you are curious how wearing masks helps prevent the spread of COVID-19, this link provides an opportunity to learn more. Please join me in getting Napa County back on track by committing these best practices into your daily routines.
City staff continues to deliver essential services despite the physical closure of most of our public facilities. Most, if not all, services can now be completed through our Virtual City Hall. To help provide health and wellness opportunities, we are slowly adding recreation programs in compliance with county and state regulations.
Tomorrow, Friday, July 31st, and Monday, August 3rd are unpaid “furlough” days for staff – including myself. Most City staff (public safety is not affected) and unessential services (i.e., Aquatic Center, Skate Park) will not be available on these days. Despite these difficult budgetary constraints, what hasn’t changed is our dedication to each of you. We are here, a phone call or an email away, please reach out if you need anything.
Lastly, as we head further into the fire season, PG&E has online webinars (both live and recorded sessions) to allow community members to learn more about wildfire safety and emergency preparedness. It is important that PG&E has your most recent contact information so you can be notified when an event could impact your home or business. Visit My Wildfire Alerts or call 1-866-743-6589 to update your contact information. It is also important to subscribe to Nixle Alerts to receive the latest emergency updates from the City, County, and Sheriff’s Office. See more on this below.
Take Care,
Jason Holley City Manager

Election Nomination Period is Still Open! Do you have an interest in serving your community? If so, we have the perfect opportunity for you! The nomination period is open for the November 3rd election, and there is still time to apply. Mayor (full term of four years) and two members of the City Council (full terms of four years) are open for election this year. The nomination period closes at 5 PM on Friday, August 7, 2020. If nomination papers for an incumbent officer of the City are not filed by 5 PM on August 7, 2020, the nomination period for non-incumbent candidates will be extended to 5 PM on Wednesday, August 12, 2020.
So, what does this mean? If you are interested in applying, there are forms you'll need to fill out. Most importantly, to qualify, you'll need to obtain the official signature form from the City Clerk. You will need to obtain signatures from registered voters (20 min, 30 max). This document will be due no later than 5 PM on Friday, August 7, 2020 to the City Clerk. Then it will be sent to the County Registrar for verification. Once verified, you're officially in the race! Of course there are other forms.
Although, City offices are currently closed to the public due to COVID-19 restrictions, our City Clerk is readily available to meet with you by appointment to obtain the nomination papers. Arrangements to obtain nominations papers by appointment may be made by contacting the City Clerk by phone at (707) 647-5337 or email at sjohnston@cityofamericancanyon.org.
