Dear American Canyon Community,

In order to best protect the City of American Canyon from outsiders coming into town to loot or vandalize in the same manner we saw in Vallejo and Fairfield, our City leaders ratified a State of Emergency Proclamation, and an 8 PM to 5 AM Curfew Order for Tuesday and Wednesday nights (June 2 & 3, 2020).

To be clear, this is not “martial law,” nor is it meant to negatively reflect our own community members who work closely and partner with our local law enforcement on a regular basis. The only purpose of this curfew is to protect OUR residents from the criminal intent of outsiders. Click here for answers to Frequently Asked Questions.

The City of Vallejo was subject to dozens of looting incidents throughout their community on Monday night in what appeared to be coordinated attack from outsiders. Many of the arrests and related vehicle pursuits throughout the night involved subjects who were from, or fled towards, counties other than Solano. American Canyon Police (ACPD) also received intelligence that our City may be specifically targeted that night. Staffing levels were increased to both protect our City, and have resources available to assist neighboring jurisdictions. ACPD was able to saturate our City with patrols Monday night, and the looting in our City did not happen. Several individuals from Contra Costa County broke into an occupied home. The occupants were not injured and 5 of the 6 individuals were quickly arrested (1 escaped over fences and fled).

Similar to Monday night, ACPD up-staffed Tuesday night and braced for another dangerous, chaotic night. City leaders ratified a State of Emergency Proclamation, and the 8 PM to 5 AM curfew for Tuesday and Wednesday nights (June 2 & 3, 2020) to protect OUR residents from the criminal intent of outsiders. Additionally, the National Guard was activated in Vallejo to provide additional support.

Below is the summary of calls ACPD responded to last night (June 2, 2020). ACPD will continue to monitor tips, rumors, and open source social media posts for any indication of planned looting and crime in our operational area. The officers of American Canyon Police Department are committed to protecting life and property in our community and appreciate every call from residents when they report suspicious activities (call 707-253-4451 to report suspicious activity or 911 in case of emergency).

Sincerely,

Jason Holley, City Manager
Oscar Ortiz, Police Chief
