American Canyon Under Curfew Beginning Tonight at 8 PM

Residents should immediately call (707) 253-4451 to report
suspicious activity or 911 in case of emergency

AMERICAN CANYON, Calif., June 2, 2020 – As a precautionary measure and based on incidents of mass looting and unlawful protest related to the tragic killing of George Floyd in Minnesota that have turned violent in the region, the City of American Canyon City Manager, serving as the City’s Director of Emergency Services, has proclaimed the existence of a local emergency within the City of American Canyon. The City Council will ratify this Order at their regularly scheduled meeting this evening, June 2, 2019, at 6:30 PM.

The Order imposes a curfew throughout American Canyon, beginning Tuesday, June 2, 2020, between the hours of 8 PM – 5 AM, until Thursday, June 4, 2020. The purpose of the curfew, which is similar to neighboring cities, is to protect our residents and businesses, particularly from out-of-the-area opportunistic looters. American Canyon Police and Napa Sheriff’s office resources will increase staffing levels to help ensure public safety.

American Canyon residents are asked to remain in their homes during the curfew hours to assist our local first responders in protecting our community. The American Canyon Police Department will be present throughout the community to provide protection and respond to any needs that may arise. Residents should immediately call (707) 253-4451 to report any suspicious activity or 911 in the case of an emergency.

To help keep our community safe, City streets and public right-of-way, parks, trails and open spaces, private parking lots and commercial shopping centers, and State Route 29 will be closed to the public during the curfew hours. The Order does not apply to individuals who are in the course of traveling directly to and from work or to obtain medical or emergency assistance or to provide care for family members or others, credentialed media representatives engaged in news gathering, or persons who are experiencing homelessness who remain sheltered in place in a single location. The full Order is available here.

The City of American Canyon is proactively taking these measures to protect the public peace, safety, and welfare within our community, including the safety of our residents, businesses, and peaceful protesters.
