Message from the Chief
As we wrap up the month of February, we can’t help but wonder… where is the rain? Perhaps it is waiting for March. In anticipation of rain returning during March, we would like to remind everyone to drive safely, especially on wet roadways. Turn on your headlights and inspect/replace your windshield wipers. It is also a good habit to clean your windshield and headlamps when you fuel up your vehicle. You should plan for a little extra travel time and drive slower during the rainy season. Wet roadways require a longer stopping distance. Driving slower will also give you more time to react to and avoid fallen branches, potholes, or vehicle collisions in your path.
Please remember, when you finally get to where you are going, lock your car. Do not leave any bags or items inside. Merely throwing a jacket or a blanket over an item is not enough. The thieves are on to this tactic, and the sight of a covered item is even more inviting to them. It sends the message, “there is something expensive under the blanket that I don’t want car burglars to see.” Vehicle burglaries are a growing problem throughout California, and it’s not just a nighttime crime. It only takes a car burglar 15 seconds to shatter a windshield, grab an item, and flee in their getaway vehicle. These crimes happen day and night, throughout the state.
Soon, we will be publishing our Police Department Annual Report and presenting it at the March 3rd City Council Meeting. The report will also be available on our website. I invite you to review this report and get to know your Police Department.
We appreciate the incredible support this community extends to public safety, and we appreciate the extra “eyes and ears” that our residents assist us with when they partner with us to fight crime. Regarding “eyes,” as a reminder, please spread the word on our Camera Registry Program. If you or your neighbors have not added your camera information to our database, you can by clicking the image below. This tool lets us know that you have a camera and will make it easier for us to contact you if we need you to review your footage for us to develop leads in criminal investigations.
Thank you for your involvement in Neighborhood Watch. I look forward to seeing you at upcoming events.
