Hello,

We are excited to announce that we have begun a two-year process to update our General Plan! The General Plan establishes the goals, policies, and direction the City will take to achieve the vision of the community over the next 20 years.

What is a General Plan?
Every city and county in California has a general plan; it serves as the local government’s long-term blueprint for the future. A General Plan has three defining features:

  • Provides general guidance to direct future land use and resource decisions
  • Covers a wide range of social, economic, infrastructure, and natural resource topics
  • Addresses both immediate and long-term needs to achieve the community’s vision

Why is the City Updating the General Plan?
American Canyon has changed significantly since the adoption of its current General Plan in 1992. The Update will ensure the City’s General Plan reflects current community needs and priorities. The Plan will also address new issues (e.g., community health and climate change), changes in State law (e.g., greenhouse gas emission reductions), and new trends (e.g., shared mobility and online shopping).

How Can YOU Get Involved?
We encourage community members to stay engaged in the process and attend public workshops, City Council/Planning Commission meetings, and other events we plan to host.
