Happy New Year!
This is one of my favorite times of the year! The days are beginning to get longer; we're still getting some much-needed sprinkles of rain. The hills are green, lush, and beautiful. It's a wonderful time to bundle up for a walk at the Wetlands Edge Trail.
If you'd prefer to stay indoors, the Planning Commission will meet on Thursday, January 23rd, at 6:30 PM in the City Council Chambers. The agenda is here. The Planning Commission will consider a Resolution to recommend the City Council approves a General Plan Amendment to incorporate the NVTA Countywide Bicycle Master Plan for the City of American Canyon into the Circulation Element. It's exciting to think that one day there could be safe bicycle access from American Canyon through Napa County to the north.

Political Signs As we enter into the new year, you might notice a change in the landscape – political signs!
They have sprung up all over town. Have you ever wondered how political signs work? Signs are a form of free speech, but the City regulates their location, size, and duration of the display. They are not judged by their content.
Political signs are regulated in the Sign Ordinance, ACMC section 19.23. They can be installed 120 days before the election and must be removed ten days after the results are announced. Political signs can not be placed on public property, in the public right-of-way (street), or within 25 feet of any existing commercial sign. Signs must be kept in good condition and cannot obstruct vehicle visibility from the road. With this in mind, there’s no problem with you showing your support for your favorite candidate with a t-frame sign on your lawn or a sign on your window. Just remember to take them down when the campaign is over!
