Hello!
Please join me in welcoming new Assistant City Manager Maria Ojeda. This position was re-purposed and upgraded from an existing position as a result of reorganizing last year. Maria will direct, coordinate, and evaluate the operations of the Finance Department, Information Technology, City Clerk’s Office, as well as manage various functions and activities of the Human Resources Department, including Labor Relations and Risk Management. We hope you will join us at the City Council meeting on September 3rd to provide Maria with a warm American Canyon welcome!
On a bittersweet note, today we began recruiting for a new Public Works Director. Steve Hartwig, who has served in our Public Works Department since 2016, has accepted a promotional opportunity with Sacramento County starting in October. We are so grateful for Steve’s work here and while we will miss him, we are proud of his selection for this new opportunity.
Next week we will also welcome 32 residents to this year’s Citizens Academy. The program’s mission is to help develop future community leaders and build a better community by creating well-informed and engaged residents. To date, more than 100 residents have completed the program. Each class helps participants understand critical roles and functions in the city and how they interact to form a strong and effective government. This year, we’ll also taking the program to ACHS, where we will begin “High School Citizens Academy” under the tutelage of Mrs. Goff. The program is designed to help the ACHS students learn more about their local government. We will spend one morning a month throughout the school year engaging with nearly 80 members of the senior class. I’ll share more as we progress through the program.
