Chivalry
By Neil Gaiman
The master of myth and legends tells the story of an elderly British widow's encounter with an antiques shop, a Grail, and a very persistent young knight. A lighter fair than his longer works; the book reads like a picture book for adults.
The knight must have the Grail, and with each return, comes back with a more lavish treasure to trade for it. Some of the most delightful moments of the book are in her characterization and non-reaction to these gifts.
Each of the pictures are full of details and vibrant colors. The background is full of gothic references, Arthurian legend, and mystical objects from legends.
There's a fantastic interview with Doran the artist at the end that only made me appreciate the labor and sacrifice that went into the art for this. It's a true labor of love that's a breezy feast for the eyes at 72 pages. -- Recommended by Ken
