Assisting Community Based Organizations in the Age of Health Care Reform

Alameda County ICPC, with the Alameda County Social Service and Health Care Services Agencies released “Alameda County Health Care Reform Guide for Community-Based Organizations and County Partners” in September.  As a result of health care reform, eligibility and enrollment in health care will change in Alameda County in 2014. This guide educates Alameda County partners and providers about the various federal, state, and local changes created by health care reform.  The guide was created by Sarah Yuen Linville, ICPC Intern and Gabriella Tunzi, Health Care Reform Fellow for the Alameda County Social Services Agency this summer.  Click here to access the guide.

Please note that this guide is a living document and will be updated periodically. Copies of the guide were distributed at the Alameda County ICPC forum focused on serving children and their families in the age of health care reform on September 20, 2013. Over 150 people attended the forum in person and by live stream.  To view the forum via live stream, click here.

Positive Youth Justice Initiative (PYJI) Awarded Implementation Grant

The Alameda County Probation Department accepted a one year grant from the Sierra Health Foundation to implement the County’s Positive Youth Justice Initiative (PYJI).    The Alameda County Positive Youth Justice Initiative (PYJI) is a cross-agency collaboration initiated to better meet the needs of crossover youth.  Crossover youth are defined as youth who are dually involved in the juvenile justice and child welfare systems.  The plan uses best practices in serving high need youth, including: Trauma Informed Care, Wraparound Services, and employing Positive Youth Development practices. A pilot program for crossover youth is also part of the implementation plan. Probation Chief LaDonna Harris commented, “Moving this initiative into implementation will provide an opportunity to leverage existing resources and partnerships to realize systems change for crossover youth and their families.  I look forward to the victories and new developments that will emerge from this collaborative work.”  For more information on the Sierra Health’s Positive Youth Justice Initiative, please click here.
