School is back in session and so is Science in the Park this THIS SATURDAY, October 3rd at Cal State East Bay in Hayward (my alma mater)!

This beloved free family event for all ages organized by the Alameda County District 2 Office celebrates Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM). My team and I are honored to play our part in inspiring the next generation of future STEAM leaders and are thankful for our continued partnership with Cal State East Bay in hosting this exciting opportunity for youth and their families in District 2 and the greater region.

Russell City Redress Fund Update: Phase 1 Application Opens & Office Hours

Last month, the Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a historic agreement to govern and administer the first phase of Russell City Redress Fund payments in partnership with the City of Hayward and the County Auditor-Clerk Recorder’s Office.

Phase 1 payments prioritize living former Russell City homeowners. To support Phase 1 applicants, in‑person Redress Fund Office Hours are available at:

AC Alert

AC Alert is the Mass Notification System used by City and County agencies throughout Alameda County to rapidly spread emergency or critical incident alerts to people who live, work, or visit the County.

Simply opt-in to this free service, enter your contact information and subscribe to notifications you care about based on your location(s) of interest such as your place of work or your child's school. The information you provide is protected and will not be used for any other purpose.

When an alert is issued, you will receive a message on the voice, text and/or e-mail communication methods that you provided when you registered. In most cases, you can confirm that you have received the message and the system will cease further attempts to contact you on the other contact paths you provided. If you do not confirm, the system will continue to attempt to reach you using all of the contact paths that you have provided.

Join Ava Community Energy (Ava) and Bike East Bay at this free community E-Bike Test & Ride event!

Whether you’re brand new to e-bikes, already an experienced rider, or somewhere in between, this is your chance to get on a variety of e-bikes, compare your options, and discover what works best for you.

Come experience it for yourself and:

  • Test ride a variety of e-bikes on a supervised, closed-course circuit with no traffic
  • Compare different styles and models to find the ride that fits your lifestyle
  • Meet local bike shops and experts who can answer questions and help you explore your e-bike options
  • Learn about Ava Bike Electric rebates and how you can save hundreds on a new e-bike of your choice. This program awards rebates to eligible Alameda County and San Joaquin County residents every month, with larger rebate amounts available for income-qualified residents!
  • Get free bike education and safety resources

This is a family-friendly event — everyone is welcome! Please bring a valid ID if you’d like to demo an e-bike. You must be over the age of 18 to test ride an e-bike, though passengers on e-bikes may be under the age of 18.

  • A helmet if you would like to wear your own; we’ll also have helmets to borrow

Parking & transit:

The event is at the Hayward BART station parking lot, conveniently accessible by BART, bus, or car. Free bike valet parking, provided by Bike East Bay, will be available for attendees who ride their bikes to the event. Please bring your bike lock, as the bike valet racks will only be monitored by a volunteer.

13th Bay Area Science Festival (Saturday, October 17 - UCSF)

BASF is a one-day only, FREE family-friendly celebration of science, bringing together thousands of curious kids, families, educators, scientists, and science lovers from across the Bay Area for a day of hands-on scientific discovery.

This year, the Festival returns to UCSF’s Mission Bay campus, where Koret Quad and the surrounding buildings will be overflowing with 100+ interactive exhibits, performances, lab tours, and opportunities to meet STEM role models from across the region. Try your hand at the physics of archery by shooting a short-range bow and arrow, see what happens when a marshmallow is placed in a chamber and deprived of air, view developing cells under a microscope in a working scientific lab, enjoy a STEM-themed magic show, and listen as UCSF scientists attempt to explain their research in three minutes or less. That’s just a taste of what you’ll discover at BASF!

Hearts in Harmony: Fall Singing Session (Thursday, October 22 - Fremont)

Hearts in Harmony

Build confidence and community with the Hearts in Harmony: Fall Singing Sessions!

  • Time: 4:30pm - 5:15pm
  • Location: Fremont Library (2400 Stevenson Blvd., Fremont)

These sessions will include vocal technique, beginner solfege (do-re-mi), music-related games, and summer-themed tunes that are easy to grasp and enjoy! Sessions will be held in a group setting with opportunities to sing solo parts so children can build self-confidence, collaborate, and grow creatively!! No prior singing experience required.

Recommended for ages 8 and up.

This is a series of 4 classes, held on Thursdays at 4:30 from 10/22/26 to 11/19/26 with no class on 11/5/26.

1. Arts Commission

  • Objective: Commission's purpose is to provide leadership in encouraging and supporting artistic endeavors in Alameda County. Mission Statement: The Alameda County Arts Commission is dedicated to improving the quality of life in Alameda County by nurturing a thriving environment for the arts and for cultural activities; promoting economic opportunities for Alameda County's artists and arts organizations through programs such as arts grants, public art, and art in education programs; encouraging public participation in the arts and actively advocating for the arts.
  • Term: 4 years

2. Behavioral Health Advisory Board

  • Objective: Review and evaluate the community's public mental health needs, services, facilities, and special problems in any facility within the county where mental health evaluations or services are provided, including but not limited to, schools, emergency departments and psychiatric facilities. Advise the Board of Supervisors and the Alameda County Behavioral Health Care Services Director as to any aspect of the local mental health program. The Board may request assistance from the local patients' rights advocates when reviewing and advising on mental health evaluations or services provided in public facilities with limited access.
  • Term: 3 years
  • Meetings: 3rd Monday of each month at 3pm
  • Location: 2000 Embarcadero Cove, Suite 400 Oakland, CA 94606
  • Qualifications: 
    • Experience with and knowledge of the mental health system. This may include members of the community that engage with individuals living with mental illness in the course of daily operations, such as representatives of county offices of education, large and small businesses, hospitals, hospital districts, physicians practicing in emergency departments, city police chiefs, county sheriffs, and community and nonprofit service providers.
    • Members shall be a resident of Alameda County and reside in District 2.
