Dear District 1,
June is Pride Month, a time to honor the progress made toward equality, while reaffirming our commitment to building welcoming and inclusive communities where everyone can live authentically, safely, and with dignity. My office is proud to support our LGBTQIA+ constituents.
As we also welcome the start of summer, I hope families across District 1 are enjoying the transition into warmer weather. The close of the school year brings many new opportunities to connect with friends, neighbors, and community events throughout the season.
I encourage families to explore upcoming programs and activities at their local community centers, city event calendars, and other community resources to stay engaged and make the most of the summer ahead.
In this month’s newsletter, you’ll find updates on community events, County initiatives, and ways to stay engaged with the important work happening across district 1.

Janeé Kimmins-Freeman of Team Haubert participated in the Pride Month flag-raising ceremony on Tuesday outside the County of Alameda Administration Building in Oakland.
This annual event celebrates the diversity, resilience, and contributions of the LGBTQIA+ community and reaffirms our ongoing commitment to fostering an inclusive and welcoming Alameda County for all residents.

Congratulations to all of our District 1 Interns for successfully completing our school-year program with the D1 office! I want to extend my sincere appreciation to each student for their time, dedication, and professionalism in supporting our work throughout the year.
Intern Director Katy Felton and I recently celebrated our interns with a pizza party and roundtable discussion, where we had the pleasure of hearing about their Community Impact Projects and the research they completed this semester. It was inspiring to see the depth of thought, creativity, and commitment each intern brought to their work.
It is incredibly encouraging to witness such talented and driven young leaders, and it gives me great optimism for the future. I wish each of you continued success as you begin your next chapter!

Free Admission Opportunities at the Alameda County Fair
The Alameda County Fair is once again offering opportunities for free admission tickets in 2026! The Fair will run from June 19 to July 12.
Free Admission for Seniors
Alameda County seniors may attend the Fair for free. To qualify, individuals must be 62 years or older (ID required) and reside in Alameda County. Complimentary tickets are limited to one per person and must be picked up in person; tickets cannot be collected on behalf of others. Tickets are available at any Age Well Center while supplies last.

New Sensory Morning Experience

June is Alzheimer's and Brain Health Awareness Month. This month serves as an important reminder to learn more about brain health, recognize the signs of Alzheimer's disease, and support those living with dementia and their caregivers. We encourage all residents to take time to explore educational resources and preventative health information available through the Alzheimer's Association.
We would also like to share valuable resources from the Alameda County Public Health Department's Healthy Brain Initiative (HBI). The Healthy Brain Initiative works to increase awareness, promote brain health, and connect individuals and families with support services throughout our community.
Included here is a downloadable resource guide for individuals living with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia, as well as their caregivers. These resources can help families access support, navigate care options, and find assistance during every stage of the journey.

The Alameda County Water District's (ACWD) Help on Tap Program provides financial assistance to income-qualified residential customers by covering the full bimonthly water service charge, currently $63.75.
Households may be eligible for the program if they meet established income guidelines. To apply, residents can download an application or request one by calling 510-668-4200. Applicants will be asked to provide proof of income, which may include tax returns, Social Security benefit statements, unemployment documentation, or proof of enrollment in assistance programs such as Medi-Cal, CalFresh, CalWORKs, or SSI/SSP.
Approved applicants will receive assistance for a period of three years before needing to reapply. This program helps ensure that essential water services remain affordable for eligible families and individuals throughout the community.
