District 4 Newsletter | June Edition

|
Hello District 4!
June is a month of celebrations, community, and connection. As we recognize Pride Month, we honor the contributions, resilience, and diversity of our LGBTQ+ residents and reaffirm our commitment to building a county where everyone feels welcomed, respected, and valued.
June also marks the beginning of a favorite tradition - the Alameda County Fair. The fair brings together neighbors, families, local businesses, farmers, and community organizations to celebrate the spirit and character of our county. From exhibits, entertainment and concerts, youth programs, and local agriculture, it is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the people and traditions that make our community special.
Please save the date for my 23rd annual Healthy Living Festival on September 24! As my flagship event for older adults, the festival brings together valuable health, wellness, and community resources in a fun and engaging setting at the Oakland Zoo. Be sure to check out the flyer in this newsletter for additional details. We look forward to sharing more information and announcing when registration opens in the coming weeks.
As summer begins, I invite you to join in these celebrations, support local events, and take advantage of opportunities to connect and engage. In this month's newsletter, you'll find updates and events and ways to get involved.
It’s an honor to serve you and I remain committed to delivering results on your behalf. As always, if you need assistance with any county-related matters, please don't hesitate to reach out to one of my offices. Contact details are listed at the bottom of this newsletter - my staff and I are here to help.

STANFORD HEALTH CARE TRI-VALLEY LAUNCHES HOSPITAL EXPANSION
Stanford Health Care Tri-Valley recently celebrated a groundbreaking for a hospital expansion to answer the medical needs of one of the fast-growing sections of the San Francisco Bay Area. The 66,000-square-foot wing, to connect to the east side of the hospital, will stand three stories tall — more than doubling the capacity of the emergency department; allowing the hospital’s laboratory, pharmacy and sterile processing center to be relocated to larger spaces; and setting the stage for future expansion. With the expansion, the Stanford Health Care Tri-Valley emergency department will have 24 additional patient bays and three triage rooms along with a larger patient waiting area. “When this project is complete, patients will have faster access to emergency care with reduced wait times,” said Brian Kaminski, MD, medical director of the Stanford Health Care Tri-Valley emergency department. “It ensures that life’s most urgent moments are met with the excellence, speed and compassion that define Stanford Medicine.”
Alameda County Point-In-Time Count 2026 Results
This year's Point-in-Time count reflects encouraging progress, with more than one-third of indivduals counted residing in shleter - the highest sheltered rate Alameda County has achieved since 2015. Through Measure W, Alameda County is expanding access to shelter and interim housing by adding nearly 300 new units countywide, includig new housing opportunities for medically frail residents in the unincorporated mid-county area. We are also strengthening support for shelter providers to enhance the quality of care, promote stability, and create clearer pathways to permanent housing for the people we serve. Together, these efforts advance the Home Together Plan and bring us closer to Alameda County Vision 2036 - a future in which every resident has the opportunity to thrive in safe, healthy, and inclusive communities.

Supervisor Miley applauds the County's efforts to address homelessness, including establishing the Office of Housing & Homelessness, the Countywide State of Emergency on Homelessness, and the Measure W investments ($1.4 Billion) in the County's Home Together Plan. |
|
Supervisor Miley also announced that the County would be investing $50M this year in homeless prevention services.

"Rising Together" in remembrance of 9/11 - Memorial Exhibit at the Alameda County Fairgrounds
I had the honor of recently witnessing the arrival of the World Trade Center beam as we prepare to commemorate the 25th anniversary of 9/11. These beams were recovered from the World Trade Center after the collapse of the Twin Towers. These artifacts offer guests a powerful and solemn opportunity to pause, reflect and remember a day that forever changed American history. This exhibit will be on display during the Alameda County Fair which takes place from June 19 to July 12. A powerful reminder of resilience, sacrifice, and the lives forever changed. We will never forget.

Recognizing Older Americans Month
In May, I got to recognize "Older Americans Month" at the Board of Supervisors meeting. This year's theme, "Champion Your Health", highlights the importance of prevention, wellness, and meaninful social connections in supporting healthy aging. Alameda County is committed to helping older adults thrive through innovative programs, strong community partnerships, and age-friendly initiatives that promote health, independence, and quality of life at every stage of aging.
Older adults are vital to the strength and vitality of our communities. Through mentorship, volunteerism, civic engagement, and the preservation of our County's rich history and cultural traditions, they make lasting contributions that benefit us all. We thank and celebrate the older Americans whose wisdom, leadership, and dedication continue to inspire us every day.

Planning Department - Alameda County Community Development Agency
|
The Alameda County CDA Planning Department serves the unincorporated communities of Alameda County, which include Ashland, Castro Valley, Cherryland, Fairview, Hayward Acres, San Lorenzo, Sunol, and rural east county communities outside the cities of Livermore, Dublin, and Pleasanton.
The Planning Department plans and oversees new development and redevelopment plans; creates policy for land use; and regulates, monitors and enforces County Zoning Ordinance, Subdivision, and other ordinances. The Planning Department performs municipal-type land use regulation functions for unincorporated areas of the County, ensuring compatible land use for the roughly 152,000 residents within its jurisdiction.
The Planning Department protects and enhances the quality of life in our communities by creating specific area and general plans with community participation, thus guiding the development and conservation of the county's unincorporated areas; planning and building existing and new communities utilizing in-house policy, environmental assessment and site design review expertise; and enforcing the General Plan and the zoning ordinance and responding to citizen-initiated concerns about land use.
