On March 2, Governor Gavin Newsom visited the Bay Area Community Services (BACS) Regis Village Campus in Hayward to announce $291 million in funding for services and housing.
BACS provides permanent and traditional housing to unhoused individuals in Alameda County, alongside behavioral health support. The organization is expanding its campus to include a navigation center, medical respite care, substance use residential treatment and detox services, a wellness center, a sobering center, and a dedicated office for Community Assistance, Recovery, and Empowerment Act (CARE) services.
During the visit, the Governor recognized Alameda County as a CARE Champion, highlighting our community as a leader in implementing the CARE Act to connect residents living with serious mental health challenges with treatment, supportive services, and stable housing.
On March 1, I joined the Hindu Community and Cultural Center in Livermore to celebrate their 26th Annual Grant-In-Aid Program.
This year, 39 organizations received grants, including local, national, and international nonprofits as well as the Livermore Fire Department, Livermore Police Department and Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District.
I was honored to attend and help present grant checks alongside Human Services Executive Committee Chairman Bhaskar Swaminathan, celebrating the center’s continued commitment to supporting organizations that serve and strengthen our communities.
Earlier this month, I was proud to help sponsor the Holi Festival of Colors hosted by Festival of Globe and Dr. Romesh Japra in Fremont.
The event drew one of the largest turnouts of the year as the community came together to celebrate the arrival of spring and the triumph of light over darkness. Attendees enjoyed dancing, Indian street food from local vendors, and the joyful tradition of sharing vibrant Holi colors.
The Mission San Jose Rotary Club in Fremont recently hosted a 3D Printing and Youth Innovators Competition in partnership with Fremont Unified School District and Ohlone College.
Students in grades 3–12 showcased inspiring projects, highlighting creativity and innovation from across the community. The top prize, a $2,000 award, was awarded to three high school students for their impressive artificial arm design!

It was a pleasure to hear from such bright and driven young minds at the event. Thank you to the Mission San Jose Rotary Club for organizing this fantastic opportunity to support youth innovation and learning!
