In February, we proudly celebrate Black History Month—a time to honor the rich history, culture, and significant contributions of African Americans to our nation. This month reminds us of the resilience, courage, and perseverance of African Americans throughout history, including those who fought for civil rights, equality, and justice, helping to pave the way toward a more inclusive society.
Black History Month also invites individuals, communities, and institutions to engage in meaningful conversations, educational activities, and cultural events that deepen understanding and appreciation of African American heritage and achievements.
I invite you to join us this month in recognizing Black History Month as a community. Together, we can continue building a stronger, more inclusive community that celebrates diversity in all its forms. Be sure to explore the updates below for upcoming events, resources, and opportunities throughout District 1 and Alameda County.
As always, if there is anything that my office can do to assist you regarding County-specific matters, please feel free to reach out at bosdist1@acgov.org.
Sincerely,

David G. Haubert Alameda County Supervisor District 1
On Tuesday, I had the honor of proclaiming February 2026 as Black History Month. This year’s theme, “A Century of Black Commemorations,” celebrates 100 years of intentionally honoring Black history and reminds us that history is carried forward by those who dedicate themselves to serving their communities.
I was especially proud to honor and commend Freddye M. Davis, President of the Hayward South Alameda County NAACP, who for more than two decades has represented communities including Hayward, San Leandro, San Lorenzo, Dublin, Union City, and Fremont. Her tireless leadership, advocacy, and commitment to justice and equity exemplify the spirit of Black History Month.
Ms. Davis’s work continues the legacy of those who came before her and helps build a stronger future for Alameda County. On behalf of the Alameda County Board of Supervisors, it is an honor to recognize her outstanding leadership, service, and lasting impact.
District 1 is seeking a Livermore resident to join our Dublin and Fremont Commissioners and represent the Alameda County Arts Commission!
