You can get information about your property tax including payment status, submitting a payment by eCheck or credit card or get answers to Frequently Asked Questions at the Alameda County Tax Collector's Web Page or by phone at (510) 272-6800.   Please note the payment information on our website is the same information from our agents.

Mail Early! Penalty is charged on all late postmarks. As a reminder we honor US Post Office postmarks only as receipt date. We encourage everyone to pay the property taxes safely using the following non-contact options:

  • Mail in your check, postmarked by the United States Postal Services (USPS) on or before April 10, 2026.
    • Please note: Our mailing address has changed. We are using a lock box service for faster deposit of your account. You should use the envelopes provided with PO Box 45862, San Francisco, CA 94145-0862. We are still located at 1221 Oak Street, Room 131, Oakland, CA 94612 should you opt to bring in your payment in person.
  • IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING YOUR MAILED IN PAYMENT:

    • The United States Postal Service has changed its regulations regarding postmark dates as of December 24, 2025.  The postmark date will be the date the item is first processed by its automated processing equipment not the date it is picked up from the mailbox.  You must make sure to submit your payment well before the deadline or you must walk into your local post office and request a manual postmark date to be added onto your payment envelope.  You can avoid all of this by simply paying online. We strongly encourage you to use this option as we will honor the new postmark date as receipt date.

  • Pay online either by eCheck (free of charge) where you will receive an acknowledgement of the transaction pending your bank institutions acceptance. Per the terms and conditions please check with your financial institution within three business days to confirm the transfer of funds. You can also pay by Credit Card, PayPal or Google Pay with a transaction fee. Please be advised that all PayPal payments are considered final upon submission. Our office does not have the capability to cancel or void a PayPal transaction once it has been submitted. - Tax Payment Web Page
  • Pay on the phone with a credit card (a small transaction fee) using the automated system at (510) 272-6800 by selecting option 1 after the greeting and following the prompts.
  • An agent will not assist you with your payment over the phone. For your convenience the system is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week so please ask someone you trust for assistance with this transaction if needed.
  • Pay through your bank's Bill-Pay service. This must be done well before April 10, 2026 to allow your bank's processing system enough time to process your request and mail the payment to our office; use your parcel number or tracer number to identify your property tax bill.
  • DO NOT SEND CASH PAYMENTS. Please use a personal check or obtain a cashier's check or money order and mail immediately.
  • You can also wire your payment electronically - Wire Transfer Instructions
  • Use the drop box at the entrance of the building at 1221 Oak St, Oakland CA 94612 which is available to the public Monday to Friday from 8:30 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. excluding County holidays. DO NOT DROP OFF CASH PAYMENTS
  • Use the mail slot at our Hayward Business License office located at 224 W. Winton Ave, Room 169, Hayward CA 94544 Monday to Friday from 8:30 A.M to 5:00 P.M. excluding County holidays. DO NOT DROP OFF CASH PAYMENTS

DUE TO SECURITY PROTOCOLS, ONLINE PAYMENTS MAY NOT BE AVAILABLE IF YOU ARE ATTEMPTING TO PAY FROM OUTSIDE OF THE UNITED STATES. HOWEVER, YOU HAVE SEVERAL ALTERNATIVE OPTIONS:

  • Phone Payment (IVR): You may pay by credit card using our automated system by calling +1(510)272-6800. This service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
  • Mail or Wire Transfer: Payments can also be submitted via mail or wire transfer. If you are wiring your payment, we will honor the date the payment reaches our bank so make sure you wire your payment early.

Please note: If you choose to mail your payment, ensure it is sent early enough to meet the deadline. We honor only the USPS postmark date as the official receipt date - not the date it was mailed from a foreign country.

Your cancelled check is your receipt. You can also print your property tax statement online with the paid information after it has been processed.
