Serving on a County Board or Commission is an important way for Alameda County residents to be civically engaged and impact our local decision making process. Our nearly 100 Boards, Commissions, and Committees span a wide range of topics and objectives. We welcome applications from District 5 residents representing diverse backgrounds and interests.

Applications submitted by the end of April will receive priority, though we will continue to accept applications on a rolling basis beyond the priority deadline. You must be a resident of District 5, which includes the cities of Albany, Berkeley, Emeryville, Piedmont, and West Oakland, North Oakland, Rockridge, Grand Lake, and portions of the Fruitvale, Manzanita and Dimond District neighborhoods, to serve as an appointee for the district.

Oaklanders: this Tuesday, April 15 is Election Day for the 2025 special election! Make sure you have a plan to vote before 8 PM on Tuesday.

What’s on my ballot?

All Oakland residents will be voting to elect a new Mayor and whether or not to approve Measure A. Residents of Oakland City Council District 2 will also be voting to elect a new City Councilmember.

How do I learn more about the elections on my ballot?

The League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan organization, has compiled information and resources about the election, including the Mayor and District 2 candidates and Measure A. You can also view the official County of Alameda Voter Information Guide, which includes self-submitted candidate and measure information, here.

How and when do I vote?

Election Day is Tuesday, April 15, but you can vote beforehand. All registered voters have received a ballot in the mail. There are three ways to vote:

1) Place your ballot in the mail. Postage is not required. Your ballot must be postmarked by 8 PM on April 15.

2) Drop your ballot in a 24-hour secure ballot dropbox any time before 8 PM on April 15. You can find a map of dropboxes here.

3) Vote in person at a vote center. You can find a list of vote centers, including their hours, here, and a map of vote centers here. Vote centers will be open between 7 AM and 8 PM on April 15 and between 9 AM and 5 PM beforehand.

What if I’m not registered to vote?

Don’t worry, you can still vote! You can register to vote up to election day at a vote center and cast a provisional ballot, which will be counted upon confirmation of your registration.

Help shape the future of early childhood education - join First 5 Alameda County’s Community Advisory Council Meetings to provide input on the Measure C 5-Year Strategic Plan! Meetings are open to all - ECE professionals, child care providers, families, and the community at large.
