Food is Medicine
An empty stomach absorbs more lead. Feeding your child good nutrition regularly is essential to help protect them from absorbing lead. Foods rich in Iron, Calcium, and Vitamin C can help prevent lead poisoning:
-
Iron: Ensuring an adequate iron intake can reduce lead absorption into the body. If a child has a low iron, the body may absorb more lead.
-
Calcium: Increasing calcium intake will help maintain healthy bones and teeth and help reduce lead absorption.
-
Vitamin C: Diets rich in Vitamin C enhance iron absorption and may decrease lead absorption.
While lead poisoning prevention requires comprehensive efforts, incorporating good nutrition into your lifestyle can play a crucial role in combating lead toxicity.
