AIA's Dussera & Diwali Event
Partaking in celebratory traditions during the Association of Indo American’s (AIA) annual Diwali event last weekend was amazing. It was spectacular to see thousands of Indian Americans participating and embracing their heritage at the Alameda County Fairgrounds. Supervisors Elisa Marquez and Lena Tam also accompanied me in presenting a commendation to the AIA in appreciation of their efforts.
Along with the many opportunities that accompany the Supervisorial role, viewing community groups coloring the Alameda County Fairgrounds with their rich cultural, ethnic, and religious festivities is among the highest and most precious honors. Throughout this event, I was fascinated by the traditional performances of local groups, and I am thankful for the contributions of the volunteers and organizers in making this a successful event.
Glitz & Gratitude Auction and Gala
Last weekend, I was honored to attend the Glitz & Gratitude Auction and Gala. Culinary Angels was the event’s chief beneficiary, an inspiring non-profit organization that provides nutritious meals to those diagnosed with cancer and their caregivers. I am proud to announce that my office donated $20,000 of Measure A funds to this non-profit.
The benefits of this organization’s mission of distributing free meals aren’t limited to physical nourishment, they also evoke a sense of emotional support and comfort for those confronting health challenges. When attending the Culinary Angels event, I reflected on the virtues that form the cornerstone of our District: compassion, humility, and selfless service. I extend my sincerest gratitude to groups like the Culinary Angels, as they epitomize the greatest strength of any community – the passion to uplift those around us.
Top Hat Gala 2023
Earlier this month, my team attended the Washington Hospital Healthcare Foundation's Top Hat Gala event to support their commitment to the health and well-being of our community's residents. We are happy to support this cause and share that our office donated $35,000. This event raised over $1 million dollars for their new, state of the art cancer center at the Washington Hospital in Fremont. If you want to learn more about this project, click here!

Thank You, Local Artists
Earlier this week, my office welcomed a magnificent new addition to the Heritage House art collection, created by Darcie Kent. A professional artmaker of over 30 years, Darcie Kent creates detailed paintings of the Livermore Valley and Northern California.
I wholeheartedly appreciate talented artists like Darcie for depicting the scenery within our District so beautifully. As a platform for local artists to showcase their creations, I believe the Heritage House’s walls should reflect the ever-changing creativity and artistic vision of the constituency it serves. If you wish to have your artwork displayed at the Heritage House, please don't hesitate to email bosdist1@acgov.org!
