Dear ALL IN Community,
We are excited to share that ALL IN Alameda County has made some significant transitions over the past couple of months.
On June 21, 2022, the Board of Supervisors approved the transfer of ALL IN Alameda County staff to the Alameda County Social Services Agency (SSA), and Recipe4Health and Youth Action Board to the Alameda County Health Care Services Agency (HCSA).
ALL IN Alameda County Under SSA, the ALL IN staff will continue our strategic and collaborative work to advance ALL IN’s mission of eradicating poverty in our County in alignment with SSA’s mission to promote the economic and social well-being of individuals, families, neighborhoods, and communities.
The ALL IN Steering Committee will continue to meet regularly to lead, innovate, convene, and collaborate across public, private, and community sectors to develop equitable policies and systems change strategies required to address the root causes of poverty.
Recipe4Health Effective July 1, 2022, Recipe4Health – ALL IN’s flagship initiative – transitioned to HCSA. Under HCSA, Recipe4Health will now be part of Alameda County’s network of Community Support Providers. We also are excited to announce that as of September 1st Recipe4Health is now a covered benefit for Medi-Cal recipients in our County! What started as a lofty goal to provide food as medicine has grown from food farmacies at several community health clinics into an award-winning countywide initiative that is crucial to advancing our nutrition and health justice goals.
Youth Action Board Effective July 1, 2022, the Youth Action Board (YAB) transitioned to HCSA’s Office of Homeless Care and Coordination (OHCC). The YAB – which is comprised of formerly homeless transition aged youth – is a collaborative effort to design policy, programs, and other systems changes for ending youth homelessness by youth with lived experience.
Under ALL IN, in collaboration with the Office of Homeless Care and Coordination (HCSA), the Community Development Agency and Social Services, the YAB co-developed a proposal for preventing and ending youth homelessness in Alameda County and was instrumental in securing a $6.5 million grant (Youth Homelessness Demonstration Program) from the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development. This collaboration and partnership across agencies with the YAB has offered itself to an organic transition into the Office of Homeless Care and Coordination. Under OHCC, the YAB will continue to uplift the voices of and empower youth, a constituency that is often excluded from decision-making on policies, programs, and services that shape their lives.
ALL IN Eats Effective July 1, 2022, the ALL IN Eats programs outlined in the All In Eats Business Plan were formalized under the Alameda County Deputy Sheriffs’ Activities League (DSAL) to be operated in coordination with other community partners. As part of the award-winning ALL IN Eats initiative, the ad hoc ALL IN Eats Work Group convenes and connects the County’s food system partners and aims to inform innovative and equitable strategies that support and strengthen the County’s efforts to create a just and sustainable circular food economy. ALL IN is exploring ways to support the ad hoc ALL IN Eats Work Group in the coming year.
The integration of ALL IN Alameda County and our initiatives into the County system exemplifies the late-Supervisor Wilma Chan’s founding vision for ALL IN to incubate and transform community-based ideas into sustainable programs and policies that move us towards a county without poverty where everyone lives in healthy and vibrant communities.
We look forward to continuing our work in partnership and solidarity with the community to identify new and innovative strategies to uplift our shared vision of Thriving and Resilient communities. We welcome you to join us as ALL IN defines and enters its next phase of work.
