Special Announcement:
Supporting Former Foster Youth

Dear Colleagues,

I’m reaching out to let you know about an exciting project I’m supporting – and to ask for your help.

I’ve advocated for the needs of foster youth since my time as a coordinator for a collaboration of foster care agencies in Alameda County, during my years as Chief of Staff to the late Supervisor Wilma Chan, and now as a County Supervisor. I’ve learned about the vast challenges facing our transition aged youth who don’t have family to support them as they become adults.

Foster youth are resilient. They are determined. And they need our continued support to reach their goals. That’s why I’m launching a design project, where a cohort of former foster youth will design and pitch a guaranteed income program for former foster youth in Alameda County. These 10 Project Youth Leaders will conduct a needs assessment, research guaranteed income programs, and develop a proposal for a program that would ensure this vulnerable population thrives.

They will also present to elected officials, potential project funders, and stakeholders including service providers and community advocates. At the conclusion of their process, we will invite you to a presentation of their proposal.

Can you help us recruit our youth leaders? Please share this email and job description with youth or alums of your programs, with your staff, and with those working with Transition Aged Youth. Our simple application is due on March 15.

If you have any questions, please email or call our Project Director, Casey Farmer at CaseyFarmerConsulting@gmail.com or 510.393.0388.

Sincerely,

Supervisor Dave Brown
