Program Description
In this class we will cover researching statutes, including finding links on Westlaw to other documents that cite to your statute. We will also cover how to research legislative history on Westlaw.
About the Speaker
Jonathan Dorsey, Esq., Customer Trainer, Government, Thomson Reuters - Mr. Dorsey received his undergraduate degree from the University of California, Berkeley and his J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. At Hastings, he wrote for the Hastings Constitutional Law Quarterly, and externed at the California Court of Appeal. His practice experience includes civil litigation as well as in-house work. He has been with Thomson Reuters for 8 years.

Program Description Stories of California's Black legal pioneers, local civil rights struggles, and the roots of the long fight for inclusion.
About the Speaker
The Honorable Charles A. Smiley, Presiding Judge, Alameda County Superior Court was appointed by Governor Jerry Brown in 2012. Judge Charles Smiley has served as presiding judge of the juvenile courts and as a supervising judge of the collaborative and treatment courts. Currently, he serves as presiding judge of the Alameda County Superior Court. Prior to his appointment, he worked as a court commissioner. Smiley graduated from UC Hastings College of the Law and worked as a public defender in Alameda County before joining the bench.
Judge Smiley has taught at both UC Hastings and Berkeley Law. He has been a presenter and panelist at numerous CLE events. Smiley is a past president of the Earl Warren American Inn of Court and a former director of the Charles Houston Bar Association, the California Association of Black Lawyers, and the Wiley Manuel Law Foundation, Inc.
