** Retired Judge and Oakland attorney, Lise Pearlman, will be speaking about her 2012 book, The Sky's the Limit: People v. Newton, the REAL Trial of the Century? An early morning shootout between Black Panther leader Huey Newton and two Oakland policemen put Newton on trial for his life in the volatile summer of 1968. Newton claimed that America itself was on trial for 400 years of racism. The sensational trial gripped both national and international attention. Was it the trial of the century?
