Good Food Purchasing Policy Passed!
On January 26, 2021, in partnership with SPUR and The Center for Good Food Purchasing, we presented the GFPP to the County Board of Supervisors, and we’re excited to announce that it passed! Now the real work begins as The Center for Good Food Purchasing works with the County Sheriff’s Office and the Probation Department to conduct baseline assessments of their food budgets.  We Have a Tagline!… “Good Food By the People”
Thank you to all who voted for the ALL IN Eats Tagline! “Good Food By the People, For the People” has become the winner of our online poll. “Good Food By the People” is a perfect representation of the hope and investments Alameda County is going to make in the local food economy.
 Food As Medicine Clinic Launch
ALL IN Alameda County (ALL IN) has announced the most recent expansion of its Food as Medicine initiative with the February 1st, 2021 launch at LifeLong Medical Center (LLMC). The program will launch at LifeLong Medical Center at Ashby, a community health center that services neighborhoods in Berkeley and North Oakland. Food as Medicine provides an integrative model of healthcare that combines food interventions (provided by Dig Deep Farms) with group behavioral support (provided by Open Source Wellness) to improve health, socio-emotional wellbeing, and food security for Alameda County residents
 ALL IN Eats Working Group Meeting Initiatives
Alameda County is going all-in for ALL IN Eats, as members of the community collaborate on a Working Group zoom call. Members across the East Bay work towards a more equitable future by contributing their ideas and expertise in the local food economy. Some propositions included outreach to established businesses and farms, more financial incentives, and organizing a better fleet or drivers to expedite the food recovery/distribution system.  New Vans for Food Delivery
The Alameda County Probation Department is a critical partner and leader in the investment in the circular food economy. They recently approved the purchase of 11 refrigerated new vans and 1 box truck for the expansion of food recovery and meal distribution to thousands of Alameda County residents, and expanding our ability to support partners like Daily Bowl and Meals on Wheels in their food distribution efforts. Where possible, we hope to partner with other community-based organizations in the County to support their food distribution work with these vans and our drivers.  What We Like to Learn from the Trees
“What We Like To Learn From the Trees” is a vision for humanity to have an interconnected food web economy that relies on, instead of scarcity, the nourishment of the community to help grow the weakest parts of it. Our current model of consumption has set the planet on a trajectory towards destruction. Deforestation for farmland to feed humanity is a metaphor for gentrification in urban cities that instead of building up poorer communities, we destroy them to make room for other richer communities. To work towards an interconnected food web economy, we must protect every part of our community to ensure the growth of the community as a whole.
