COVID-19 Testing in Alameda County 

The Alameda County Public Health Department (ACPHD) reminds residents that there are multiple ways to receive a COVID-19 test in the county, and encourages residents to visit the Testing for COVID-19 page for information on testing sites and guidance.  

ACPHD, in partnership with community-based organizations, offers three free testing sites. You will not be asked about your immigration status and are not required to give insurance information: 

Alameda County: The Alameda County interactive food distribution and services map is updated regularly and provides residents with information on available resources nearby.  

San Lorenzo: The San Lorenzo Library will be providing grab-and-go lunches for youth under the age of 18 starting Monday, June 15th. The Lunch at the Library program offers lunches Monday-Thursday from 12 PM-1 PM from Monday, June 15-Wednesday, August 5. Contact the library at 510-284-0640 for more information.

City of Alameda: The Alameda Unified School District will continue providing meals at Wood Middle School, Earhart Elementary School, and Alameda Point Collaborative during the summer. The summer lunch program will be available on Tuesdays and Fridays from 12 PM-1 PM starting Tuesday, June 9, 2020. The Alameda Food Bank is open throughout the week for residents in the city of Alameda to receive food. Hours of operation are changing to adjust to the food bank’s capacity – please visit the Alameda Food Bank home page for up-to-date information. 

City of Oakland: The City of Oakland Human Services Department maintains a list of food resources on their Food Distribution in Oakland page. In addition to these ongoing food distribution sites, the City of Oakland has launched their Summer Food Service Program, which provides children with healthy breakfasts and lunches while school is out of session.  

City of San Leandro: For a list of food distribution organizations serving the City of San Leandro, please visit's the city's Community Assistance Resources page and click the "food distribution programs" link.

Virtual Summer Activities at Your Local Library 

Our public libraries provide valuable services and activities to our community. While the physical locations have been closed during the COVID-19 crisis, our librarians have been hard at work to offer virtual programs. As the school year comes to an end, libraries throughout District 3 are continuing to provide their annual Summer Reading Programs and other virtual activities. Please visit your local library’s websites (see below) for a full list of events or to register for the Summer Reading programs: 

San Lorenzo Library: The Alameda County Library’s summer reading program begins on Monday, June 15th! Visit the Kind, Connected Summer page for more information on how to register. The San Lorenzo Library is continuing to host a number of virtual activities for residents in the San Lorenzo area. The full calendar can be found on the San Lorenzo Library’s home page. 

The San Lorenzo Library is also offering No Contact Pick-Up services by appointment. The hours are Wednesday-Saturday, 1 PM-5 PM, and appointments can be made by calling the San Lorenzo Library at 510-284-0640. 

Alameda Free Library: The Alameda Free Library’s summer reading program is underway! The last day to register is July 21st and the last day to play is July 31st. Register here for the summer reading program. Oakland Public Library: The Oakland Public Library’s summer reading program is also underway and goes until August 1st! The library will also be offering weekly age-appropriate activities for children, teens, and adults. To register for the summer reading program or for updates on the weekly activities, please visit the Summer at Oakland Public Library page.  

San Leandro Public Library: The San Leandro Public Library’s summer reading is also underway and goes until July 31st! Register online for the summer reading program here. Visit the library’s online calendar for information on other virtual events happening this summer. 

California Connected: Contact Tracing for COVID-19

The State of California launched California Connected to inform the public on contact tracing procedures during the COVID-19 pandemic. Contact tracing is a long-standing public health practice used to help stop the spread of infectious diseases.  

Contact tracing in anonymous and confidential 

Contact tracing is a simple way to help your community in slowing the spread of COVID-19. If you test positive for COVID-19, ACPHD will contact you and ask some basic questions about places you may have visited and people you may have been in contact with recently. They can also connect you to health care resources and may check-in to see how you are doing.

ACPHD will also contact anyone who may have been exposed and connect them to testing and resources to protect themselves and others in the community. If you may have been exposed, ACPHD will follow up to see if you have developed symptoms.  

ACPHD will NOT ask you about immigration status 

The information gathered from contact tracing will help our public health departments prevent new outbreaks of COVID-19. It is important to answer the call from public health and provide the information necessary to slowing the spread of COVID-19 in our community.

Public Comment Procedures for Board of Supervisors Meetings During Shelter in Place

Procedures for Board of Supervisors meetings are subject to change to improve videoconferencing tools. Please check the Board of Supervisors' website for the most up-to-date guidelines.

The Alameda County Board of Supervisors will continue to conduct essential government business at our regularly scheduled Board meetings.

While in-person participation is limited to essential personnel, we are committed to providing the public with live broadcast and remote opportunities to participate in public comment during the Shelter in Place order. The following guidelines allow for public participation in Board meetings while following safe social distancing practices:

Remote Viewing/Listening:
Members of the public who wish to watch the Board of Supervisors meetings, are encouraged to view the live stream online at: 
http://acgov.org/board/broadcast.htm.

We recommend against using Internet Explorer to view the meetings. We recommend using Google Chrome or other browsers to view the meetings.

Public Comment via Teleconference:
Members of the public may address the Board of Supervisors on a matter on the agenda or during the Public Input portion of the meeting on a matter not on the agenda but is an issue within the Board’s subject matter jurisdiction.

• Oakland Undocumented Relief (OUR) Fund: Offers financial support for immigrant Oaklanders who have lost income due to COVID-19. To apply for or donate to OUR Fund, visit Centro Legal’s website. 
• Legal Aid at Work (Ayuda Legal Laboral) Resource Guide: offers a list of financial services available to undocumented workers in California who have been impacted by COVID-19. This resource guide is updated on a weekly basis and is available in English, Spanish, and Chinese. 
• Immigrants Rising resource guide provides a list of resources available for undocumented immigrants. Recursos para inmigrantes sobre COVID-19 en español—utilice este enlace
