Have Symptoms? Frontline Worker? Get Tested!

We want you to get tested for COVID-19 if you have symptoms, or are a frontline worker who regularly interacts with the public. Not only will this help keep you safe, but it provides our County with more data on the advancement of the disease, which helps us slow the spread.

For several months not enough tests were available in Alameda County due to a nationwide lack of supplies. Now, we have the capacity to test more people than are currently getting tests. Don't hesitate to get tested! If you have symptoms or are a frontline worker, contact your healthcare provider or visit the County's testing website below for a list of available testing locations. Please note that most sites require you to schedule your appointment beforehand online or over the phone. Drive-up and walk-up testing is available, and there are ways to get tested if you don't have insurance.  For more information on testing click here!

5/29 Cases

Our communities have continued to make sacrifices to slow the spread of COVID-19. Despite how dangerous a disease it is, we have so far avoided the type of dangerous outbreak that could overwhelm our healthcare system and lead to even more death.

Unfortunately, we are still seeing a stubborn spread of COVID-19 throughout the County. In fact, there has been a small but detectable uptick of new cases in the last few days. As we figure out to safely reopen our society, I urge us all to continue to take great care as this virus is still spreading widely in the community. Stay home as much as you can, practice social distancing, reach out and support seniors or others who are particularly at risk, and (if I've said it once I've said it a thousand times) wash those hands!

We will get through this, but the reality is this is a very contagious, very dangerous virus. Even as the weather warms up and we all get restless, we must remain vigilant to slow the spread of COVID-19. If you don't want to take precautions for your own sake, please do so for our seniors, healthcare workers on the frontlines, and other who are increased risk from COVID-19. Your actions make a difference!

Justice for George Floyd

I generally use my weekly newsletter as a way to keep my constituents up to date on what is happening in District 4 during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, there is an important topic of national importance that I know is on the minds of many people that I need to address here.

The last few days have been deeply painful as we grieve the murder of George Floyd. Mr. Floyd died needlessly, and I share the pain of the nation as we bear witness to his death.

From what I saw in the video those police officers should be arrested and charged. Their actions were neither warranted, justified, nor lawful under the circumstances. Mr. Floyd was a father, a son, a brother, a community member, and a human being, and there must be accountability for his brutal killing. My heart goes out to his family and community who have suffered an incomprehensible loss.

We as a nation cannot accept a status quo where unarmed African Americans continue to be killed by law enforcement. We should not settle for systems where there is no accountability for police officers who abuse their power. We must call out for immediate justice for George Floyd.
