Dear Friends,
As we continue to navigate our way through these unprecedented times, overcoming extraordinary challenges along the way, your Alameda County leadership is here and committed to keeping you updated with current information and resources. The health, safety, and well-being of the members of our community remain at the forefront of my mind, and at the peak of my list of priorities at all times. This crisis has imposed horrific heartache and hardship on many of our neighbors, our family members, and our friends, yet in the midst of it all I am inspired and deeply moved by the compassion, resiliency, and human kindness that is now greater than ever within our community. Thank you for being there for one another. We are all in this together.
Thank you for your compliance with the Shelter in Place Order. We MUST continue to comply with the standards of social (physical) distancing. As we are all in this together, we continue to need your help to slow the spread.
Alameda County staff have been working around the clock to adapt to this new landscape, adjusting our procedures and policies to take care of our residents. In this bulletin, you can read about the County's Dashboard for tracking COVID-19 cases, food resources around the district, East Bay Community Energy’s virus response, Alameda County Disaster Relief Fund, Fremont and Hayward COVID-19 testing centers, help for small businesses, community resources and much more.
Please continue to visit the Alameda County Public Health Department's website at www.acphd.org, which has detailed information on how to stay safe and what measures the County is taking. The County also has an information center open Monday through Friday, from 8a.m. to 5:30p.m. at 510-268-2101/ nCoV@acgov.org.
Take good care of yourselves and those most vulnerable. You can reach my office at 925-551-6995 or email me at District1@acgov.org.
Very Sincerely,
Bay Area health officials are recommending residents cover their nose and mouth with cloth when leaving home for essential travel such as to doctor appointments, grocery shopping or pharmacy visits. Cloth face coverings, when combined with physical distancing and hand washing, may prevent transmission of Coronavirus to others when leaving the house for essential activities. Read the full press release.
Wear a mask to protect others. Masks are most helpful in keeping sick people from infecting others. Because there's some risk that people who are infected with the virus don't know they have it, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends everyone use a cloth face mask if they need to go out in public. Masks may also help prevent people from touching their faces, which should be avoided with unwashed hands. Learn more about using masks effectively.
You can make your own. You can make your own mask at home that is suitable for wearing outside. It should have multiple layers of fabric and allow you to breath easily. Don't use cloth masks with children younger than 2 or anyone who has trouble breathing or is unable to remove the mask without assistance.
The Alameda County Public Health Department has published an online dashboard of COVID-19 cases displayed by individual city. The site is updated updated daily. www.acphd.org/2019-ncov.aspx
As Bay Area counties have extended mandatory shelter in place orders, BART service has been reduced to match demand and increase essential rebuilding projects. Beginning Wednesday, April 8, Monday-Friday service will run every 30 minutes until further notice. Ridership data shows social distancing remains possible on all trains with this change. Effectively, every other train is being cancelled Monday-Friday. Reducing service also allows greater flexibility to maintain stable service should BART employees need to take time off due to illness or to care for children and family members.
Get all the details about this and other BART updates here.
On April 15, 2020, the City of Fremont launched a bag lunch distribution from the Fremont Senior Center. Distribution will be every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 12:00pm while supplies last.
Effective March 27, CleanStart Shower and Laundry services as well the Abode HOPE van are back on the Thursday Schedule but To Go meals at Centerville Presbyterian Church remain suspended.
The City of Fremont Human Services Department is adding bag lunch distribution to its menu of services for our unhoused neighbors. Beginning Wednesday, April 15, and continuing every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday thereafter during the Shelter in Place order, we will be distributing bag lunches from the Fremont Senior Center.
Distribution begins at 12 p.m. on scheduled days and continues until all the lunches are gone.
School Lunch Pick-up
Many Alameda County school districts are offering take-out style student meals to follow social distancing protocols. Districts are adjusting to changing developments as quickly as possible. Meal Service Map ACOE has compiled and mapped student meal service options at acoe.org/meals with updated links to information about each district's offerings. We recommend checking district websites for the most current schedules, locations and site-specific requirements.

COVID-19 Testing Centers
The Fremont Fire COVID-19 Testing Center, located at the Fremont Fire Tactical Training Center, 7200 Stevenson Blvd., was created to help alleviate the pressure on hospital emergency departments, provide faster test results for recently exposed first responders and front line healthcare workers, and to increase our community’s ability to suppress new transmissions through isolation after testing.
Call 510-252-6808 to schedule an appointment.
The City of Hayward COVID-19 Testing Center has moved to the California State University, East Bay campus.
The new location, at Cal State East Bay Parking Lot A on West Loop Road, across the street from the University Police Department, Student Health Center, Library and Gymnasium, provides more space for vehicle and foot traffic management, and improved accessibility for disabled visitors to the Testing Center.
Health-care workers and first responders can make advance appointments for COVID-19 testing by calling the City’s COVID-19 information hotline at (510) 583-4949.
The Center is open Tuesday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. or until the number of tests that can be processed for the day are exhausted.
