The African American Family Outreach Project will host its free informational workshop "YOU ARE NOT ALONE," for African American families who seek support and care for those who are living with mental illness and/or addicted to drugs or alcohol with an opportunity to talk with several mental health professionals.

Time will be offered for individuals to discuss symptoms, causes and medications with a Alameda County psychriatrist Aaron Chapman - an expert in dealing with drug and alcohol problems and advice from experienced family members who are willing to help.

The Solano Avenue Association and Stroll, in conjunction with the Albany Unified School District Chinese After-School Program, with help from the City of Albany, presents the 14th Annual Lunar New Year Celebration and Parade!

Two hours of free performances including singing, dancing, and drama programs. Theater entry begins at 09:30 AM. Admission is FREE!

The 30 minute parade leaves the Kains and Solano intersection (at the theater) at noon and travels eastbound to Colusa and Solano Avenue on the (south side) sidewalk - rain cancels parade.

The VITA program provides IRS certified tax preparation services at no cost to low-and moderate-income tax filers.

Did you know that children 0-5 and their families are among those most likely to be under-counted in the 2020 Census?

The Census count determines our representation in Congress and the appropriations of billions of federal funding for Head Start, health care, education, housing, and many other programs. An under-count could have grave consequences for Alameda County, and may even result in California a losing a seat in Congress.

Please join Alameda County Complete Count Committee and First 5 Alameda County at a special training session for early childhood providers and advocates. We will learn more about the importance of the Census and explore ways to help families with young children participate in the Census.

Alameda County Health Care for the Homeless is providing opioid overdose responder and naloxone training. This training will prepare individual participants with the knowledge to comfortably assess and respond to an opioid overdose including the use of naloxone, an opioid overdose rescue medication.

Census 2020 Student Video PSA Contest

The Alameda County Office of Education wants student-created public service announcements (PSAs) that help our community understand the importance of being counted in 2020.

1st Place = $1,500 | 2nd Place = $1,000 | 3rd Place = $500

Top entries will be posted all over social media, and shared with news media and the Alameda County education community. The winner will be shown at the Chase Center and an Alameda County Board of Education meeting.

  • Videos must promote participation in the 2020 Census with the theme of You Count - Be Counted
  • Videos must be made by K-12 student(s) in Alameda County, individually or on a team
  • Videos can be in ANY language
  • Videos must be 60 seconds or shorter

Entries must be submitted by 11:59pm on Sunday, February 16, 2020 - no exceptions!

Civicorps fosters a supportive environment, where students LEARN, EARN and GROW

As of January 2020, each student can design a schedule that meets their portfolio and academic needs, and aligns with their commitments outside of Civicorps.  Students will be allowed to move into paid Job Training upon completion of a baseline of onboarding activities.

Each student can now select from:

  • Part-time or full-time academic options
  • Morning, afternoon, evening or full day options
  • 3-day and 5-day per week options

And remember, we’re now opening our doors every week to new enrollees.  Every Tuesday at 10AM, new students can get started on the path to earning a high school diploma.  Must be 18-26 years old to enroll.
