How does your county law library help with the information needs within the community?

Experienced lawyers think of a law library as a place for the legal research basics - cases, codes, and practice guides.  County law libraries do so much more.

This month we:

  • provided staff training - guided an employee, new to the legal industry, on how to pull cases for the attorney.  (Doesn't get much newer than that.)
  • helped a senior caregiver identify legal aid resources to discuss his concerns about the criminal legal ramifications involving an end-of-life situation.
  • found a county report that identifies the effective property tax rate for Tax Rate Areas for Alameda County.
  • assisted a pro per with using our public computers to edit and download a court fee waiver.  The California county law libraries' main source of annual revenues are derived from court fees.  We provide legal resource assistance to the many pro pers for whom courts have waived fees - even though we receive no funding support to do so.

Visitors to the county law library use resources to research legal topics, prepare for court, and draft legal documents.  By providing equal access to the tools needed to successfully participate in the legal system, Alameda County Law Library helps facilitate access to justice for all members of the community.
