 Today I am proud to write that on June 6 Hayward joined every city in District 2 and cities and counties throughout the Bay Area taking to take a strong stance in declaring our commitment to protecting and advancing the
rights of all immigrants and refugees. Thank you to Union City, Newark, Fremont, and Hayward for reinforcing our
commitment to protecting all community members. These times call for courageous actions and we are grateful to
the City Council and Mayor who voted on the side of what is right and just
by declaring Hayward a Sanctuary City. It is extremely encouraging to see the
many community members who worked tirelessly to make this possible and I am grateful for their
collective action. It
is only through organized and sustained collective efforts that justice will
prevail. We
have a long road ahead of us, but we stand united. I am confident we will ensure constitutional protections are not trumped by
an overreaching Administration. District 2 stands with you and are proud to serve you. We will continue to support our immigrant and refugee community by holding our Ad Hoc Committee meetings throughout the County and in our Board Chambers to hear community input on how Alameda County can be the "Welcoming County" we aspire to be.

 This month's spotlight we highlight Jeff Miller for his commitment to the protection and restoration of our environment.
Jeff Miller is the founder of the Alameda Creek Alliance, a non-profit
community organization that works to restore Alameda Creek. The Alameda Creek is the largest
watershed of all local stream tributaries that feed into the San Francisco Bay. Jeff formed the
Alameda Creek Alliance in 1997 when steelhead trout in the Bay Area were
listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act, in the belief that
restoring steelhead trout and salmon to our local creek could tie us more
closely to the place we live. Jeff has spent the last two decades educating
Alameda County residents about wild steelhead trout, an “indicator species” of
watershed health, and organizing public support for stream restoration actions
by water agencies.
Jeff’s mission has been to inspire watershed residents and land managers
to value Alameda Creek for its wildlife, natural features, aesthetic qualities,
cultural and natural history, and recreational and educational opportunities.
Jeff has brought together dozens of local, state and federal agencies to
cooperate on fish passage projects to allow migratory fish to reach spawning
habitat in upper Alameda Creek. 15 fish passage projects have been
completed in the watershed since 2001, 10 more projects are in the planning
process, and water agencies are also working on multiple projects which improves stream flows and restored stream and riparian habitat along Alameda Creek and
its tributaries. These restoration projects will make up to 20 miles of Alameda
Creek and its tributaries accessible to ocean-run salmon and steelhead trout for the
first time in more than half a century
Jeff has served as Executive Director of the Alameda Creek Alliance
since 1997, and plans to continue to work to make Alameda Creek an urban stream
restoration success story.

 Alameda County Superior Court will be
allowing individuals to petition to reduce their traffic fines due to a
financial hardship (aka “ability to pay”). The court has committed to reducing
tickets by 50% if the person is low-income. Attached are the forms that will be used to determine someone’s ability to

Over the past 40 years, college tuition rates have been consistently increasing at two to three times the rate of inflation each year. Assessment Appeals Board – Review assessment
appeals. Must have five years’ experience and be a CPA, licensed real estate
broker, attorney, property appraiser to apply.
Measure A Citzens Oversight Committee – Commission annually reviews the expenditure of Measure A, the
Essential Health Care Services Tax Fund and reports to the Board of Supervisors
and the public on whether such expenditures conform to the purposes of the
measure.
Healthcare for the Homeless - The
Commission supports and guides the mission to provide comprehensive health
care that is quality-driven, affordable and culturally competent to persons
experiencing homelessness in Alameda County.
Parks, Recreation and Historical Commission –
Responsible for advising, reviewing, and fostering historical preservation
activities in the county, and ensuring that all historical resources are recognized.
Sunol Citizens Advisory Council – Sunol
residents interested in advising the Board of Supervisors on all matters
concerning services which are or may be provided to Sunol by the County or
other local governmental agencies, including but not limited to advice on
matters of public safety, welfare, public works, and planning. Meetings are
the 3rd Wednesday of every month, 7:00 p.m. at Sunol Elementary
School. Members must be residents of Sunol who live in District 2.
Tree Advisory Board – The tree advisory board is an advisor to
the Director of Public Works, assists the director in making
policy decisions related to the tree manual, hears certain appeals and conducts certain
hearings as provided in Chapter 12 of the County Administrative Code, and advises
the director on recommendations to the Board of Supervisors.
Paratransit Advisory and Planning Committee (PAPCO) - PAPCO makes recommendations to improve the planning and coordination of transportation services for seniors and people with disabilities in Alameda County. PAPCO members advise Alameda CTC on the development and implementation of paratransit programs, including a grant program.
